FSHS softball splits twinbill

? Free State High’s softball team split its two games Tuesday, defeating Olathe North, 5-3, and falling to Olathe Northwest, 6-5.

Against Olathe North, Meredith Morris picked up her fourth victory of the season, and helped out her own cause by going 2-for-3 with two RBIs at the plate.

The Firebirds came close to edging Olathe Northwest as well, but could not hold on to the lead in the seventh inning.

“It was just one of those games that got away,” FSHS coach Lee Ice said.

Free State, which is 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the Sunflower League, will play again on May 1 against Shawnee Mission West.
