World renowned religion and ecology scholar visits Lawrence for documentary screening, talks

The producer of “Journey of the Universe” — a documentary exploring the human connection to Earth and the cosmos — will be in Lawrence for a screening and series of talks.

Mary Evelyn Tucker produced the film with her husband, John Grim. Both have joint appointments at Yale University in the divinity school and the school of forestry and environmental studies.

Tucker will be featured in a panel discussion following the screening, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St. Also scheduled to participate in the panel are KU professor emeritus Don Worster, the Rev. Thad Holcombe of Ecumenical Campus Ministries and KU associate professor Paul Outka.

Tucker also will attend a colloquium at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at Spooner Hall, 1340 Jayhawk Blvd., and give a community lecture entitled “Emerging Alliance of Religion and Ecology” at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Spencer Museum of Art, 1301 Mississippi St. In connection with Tucker’s visit, the museum has organized a self-guided tour of environmentally themed art.
