First of kindergarten roundups in Lawrence set for Wednesday

For parents of children who are about to enter school, kindergarten roundup begins this week for elementary schools in Lawrence.

On Wednesday, Pinckney will hold the first kindergarten roundup, an event that gives parents and their children a chance to familiarize themselves with the school, staff and classroom. Every elementary school in the district will host a kindergarten roundup between Wednesday and May 4.

During kindergarten roundup, parents can meet other parents, visit with school staff, and learn about parent-teacher organizations and other volunteer opportunities. Parents can also ask questions and complete enrollment paperwork. To enroll, parents should provide a proof of residency, a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, an immunization record and a health assessment conducted by a physician or health care provider within one calendar year before school entry.

By state law, children who reach the age of 5 on or before Aug. 31 are eligible for kindergarten enrollment.
