Lawrence school district’s consoilidation working group to meet Sept. 7

Efforts to begin contemplating ways for consolidating elementary schools in the Lawrence school district will have to wait another week.

The first working meeting for the district’s Central and East Lawrence Elementary School Consolidation Working Group has been rescheduled. Instead of gathering Monday evening, the group’s volunteer members will meet at 7 p.m. Sept. 7 at district headquarters, 110 McDonald Drive.

Officials rescheduled the meeting after signing two facilitators for the process: Marilu Goodyear, director of the School of Public Affairs and Administration at Kansas University; and Kathleen Ames-Oliver, learning and development manager for KU’s Department of Human Resources & Equal Opportunity.

The working group is tasked with recommending a plan for consolidating six elementary schools into either three or four. The six being studied: Cordley, Hillcrest, Kennedy, New York, Pinckney and Sunset Hill.
