Faye Young

Faye Luella Young, 95 Lawrence passed away Tuesday, May 25 at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Lawrence. Services will be held at Lawrence Presbyterian Manor Chapel at a later date.

Faye was born on October 9, 1925 at her maternal home that was a homestead in 1877 in Ellsworth County, Ks. She was the daughter of William J. and Mary A. (Brink) Hysell. At age 2, her family moved to her paternal homestead where she attended the county school that her Mother and Aunt Martha had taught. Faye graduated from Ellsworth High School. She entered nurses training as a U.S. Government Army Cadet at the Ellsworth hospital. She graduated as a registered nurse in 1946.

Faye met the love of her life, Lyle E. Young, on a blind date in 1946 and they were engaged within 2 months. Her parents advised her that she had to wait 6 months to marry. They were married April 10, 1947. They moved to Salina, Ks where she worked in the polio unit of Asbury Hospital where Robert Dean and Barbara Jean were born in 1951. They moved to Norton, Topeka and finally Lawrence in 1956 where Lyle was Wire Chief for Southwestern Bell Telephone. When the twins were in Junior High, Faye returned to nursing. She retired as head nurse for The Reed Internal Medicine group in 1984.

Faye and Lyle enjoyed recreational vehicle camping with the Bell Telephone Topeka and Wichita Telephone Pioneers camping group. They enjoyed travel and fishing in Kansas, Minnesota and Canada. They later spent winters at Fiesta Village resort in Mission, Texas.

Faye was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lawrence Nurses, Lawrence Ladies Shrine club, India FCE Kaw Valley Quilters Guild. She received her 70-year certificate from the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include her twin children, Bob (Sherry) of Topeka and Barb Innes (Bob) of Overland Park; three grandchildren, Jennifer Young Bertelsen (Anthony) of Wichita, Ks, Stephen Innes (Jamie) of Overland Park and Michael Young (Katie) of Topeka; three great grandchildren Kellon Bertelsen, Kristopher Innes and AnnAstra Young. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William Hysell and sister, Eva McKain and her grandson, Scott Kristopher Innes in 2004. Lyle preceded her in death on July 14, 2013.
