James Everson

Jim Everson, age 77, passed peacefully at his home on Friday, April 9th, 2021 in Lawrence, Kansas, after a long and hard-fought battle with Parkinson's Disease. Jim was born in Nevada, Missouri on May 6th,1943. He enlisted in the Navy and served on The U.S.S. Ranger as a steamfitter. He married Vicki Clelland on April 12, 1964. They moved from Ottawa to the Clinton community and continued raising their three small children. They later divorced. Jim worked for Bud Jennings Carpets and Carpet One as an installer for many years before beginning his own business, Jim's Carpet Installation. He spent many years measuring and installing for Martin Floor Covering until it closed in May of 2016 and then delivered for Kring's Flooring until he retired. He married Theresa Gauna in 2019. Jim enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and watching the Jayhawks and the Chiefs unless they were really frustrating him. He looked forward to attending his grandchildrens and great nieces and nephews sporting events and activities.

Jim is survived by his wife, Theresa; daughter, Cindy Howell; son, Bradley Everson (Rachel); step-daughters, Cheryl LaFrenz and Joann Wyrick; grandchildren, Kali Howell (Nathan), Michael Howell (Kyleigh), Justin Coleman, Levi Everson (Mallori), Abby Everson and Caleb Everson, 8 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Everson; infant daughter Crissie; mother, Velma Schmoe; father, Russell Everson; brothers, Don Walker (Mary), Clinton Everson, and Danny Everson. Jim enjoyed spending time with family and will be greatly missed.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 6-8 p.m. with a remembrance service starting at 6 p.m. at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence, KS. A Military Graveside Service will be at a later date in Clinton Cemetery, Clinton, KS.
