Masters of Deception! (Politicians) L. Don Oliver
Oh! such fools, we modern receivers; Who bask in lies, of the deceivers;
Saying it is, when it isn't so; Off to the bank, they will go;
It's not their money, deceivers care not; As long as it isn't their personal lot;
Football or basketball, which should we choose; Or will we be sated, with dope and booze;

Persistence! By L. Don Oliver
When I was eight years old, As chubby as I could be; Tommy sent word he wanted To meet under the pecan tree;
The sun was shining brightly, It was a very warm day; I discovered very soon, Tommy was not there to play;
He wanted to fight, And I didn't know why; He swung and missed, And I made him cry;
Happening on several occasions, The outcome was the same; He would start the fracas, And I would end the game;
The last time we met, I didn't have my grip; Tommy swung and hit me, Splitting my upper lip;
It wasn't out of anger, It wasn't just to fight; Tommy kept on trying, Until he got it right;

Holding On! By L. Don Oliver
I came upon a new mown field, And heard the black birds sigh; Tiring of their fruitless search, Away they began to fly;
I walked thru a valley of flowers, Who's buds refused to bloom; All wilting in the same direction, Waiting for their coming doom;
I strolled the desert's heat, And felt the scorching pain; Then came the darkened clouds, With their life refreshing rain;
Holding on to that I believe, Destiny is not mine to propose; Concerned not about that to come, After pausing to smell the rose;

Train! By L. Don Oliver
We all called him train, No purer person you will find; Every morning we would gather, To watch Train chugging down the line;
Each morning we would pump our fists, Like little children are want to do; He would pull his imaginary whistle, Then go, whoo-whoo, whoo-whoo, whoo-whoo;
Train was a slow learner, And he wasn't too smart, One thing he did possess, Was a big loving heart;
The little money he made, From cleaning horse stalls, To him wasn't a great feat; Each morning he would buy bread, For all the little birds, And the small animals to eat;
One day a small child, Fell into a raging river, Running thorough a biting rain, That cut like a sharpened knife, With no thought of himself, Train leaped into that river, Swam to that little child, And save that baby's life;
Train he was still mortal, He had every thing to live for, And he didn't want to die; The last time he was seen, He was flowing down the river, His hand up, waving goodbye;
They found Train a few days later, There was nothing any one could do; Some say that off in the distance, They heard Train going whoo-whoo, whoo-whoo;
I know that Train is with, God in heaven and that, He is doing just fine; For each morning the angels, All gather to watch Train, Go chugging down the line;

Inequality! By L. Don Oliver
Oh! impoverished child, Where goes thou? Did thou want? Did thou need? I fear thou did;
Oh! prosperous child, Where goes thou? Thou did not want, Thou did not need, Heredity made it so;
Oh! neglected woman, Where goes thou? Did thou eat? Did thou drink? I fear thou did not;
Oh! egotistical man, Where goes thou? Thou did eat, Thou did drink, Thou caused it to be!

The Lantern's Glow By. L. Donald Oliver
Comes a light through the forest, Preying nocturnal creatures there; The eerie shadows are dancing, But she doesn't seem to care;
In the city of the vaulted, Where specter and goblin roam; A place that one someday, She will call her home;
The glow from her lantern, Upon her journey each night; Through the maze of the departed, Extinguishes her darkened fright;
Many dreams have come, Many dreams have gone; And through all the years, He was her only one;
She treasures all the moments, Together they held fast; Alas, life is so fleeting, Pleasured moments never last;
Silent words are spoken, Unto her cherished one; Soon she will join him, When her task is done;
The snow gathers around her, But deep in her heart she knows; Nothing seems to fray her, As the cold wind blows;
The winds begin to dwindle, The snow turns to frozen rain; The only truth that sustains her, That she will be with him again;

Cavern of Loneliness! By L. Don Oliver
In the grotto of my being, where I allow none to enter; For if I was ever to do so, then I wouldn't be the center;
Hearing the ghosts of life, and the song that they sing; Caring not about the morrow, or for what it will bring;
Lost in the echoing silence, in the world of my charade; Quick to always blame others, for the mistakes that I've made;
In a cavern of loneliness, where so many choose to dwell, One small step from reality, and one giant step to hell;
Swampyville Political Rhymes; “The American Horse”
The below poem is my version of America's Trojan Horse. In my opinion, this is how many of us out here in the hinterland feel! I pray that I'm reading all the signs wrong; but, I doubt that I am!
The American Horse By L. Don Oliver
By destiny compelled, and in despair; The people grew tired, of their ensnare; Weary of the promises, that were made; And for the bounty, that they had paid; So they said, to those who were in doubt; Together we must vote, the corrupted ones out; The people went forth, in their quest; Of the unresponsive ones, they would divest; The government tide, the people turned; On the very next day, they got burned; By political pry, an object was reared; A steed of monstrous height, soon appeared; It's sides were all masked, in watery clay; There inside, was where the connivers lay; Secretly they plotted, that it was their plan; All the people of the town, they would scam; When the object was raised, above the town; It crushed the walls, and they tumbled down; Off into the distance, the connivers fled; Leaving that town, they had thoroughly bled; And when the event of morning, had dawned; That town's prosperity, had been pawned; All this by design, for political fraud of source; So never trust their promises; nor, admit their horse;

The Little Cloud! By L. Don Oliver
There once was a little cloud, Drifting gently through the sky; Along came the angry wind, And tried to make it cry;
The wind blew and blew, But it was all in vain; No matter how it tried, The little cloud refused to rain;
It drifted above the mountains, There it lingered for a while; It cross the flowering plains, Where it began to smile;
It drifted with the ocean breeze, As it traveled upon it's way; Over islands colored in green, And where the dolphins play;
Then came a raging storm, And gave the little cloud a twirl; Soon it returned to it's course, On it's journey around the world;
