From Lawrence to London

Jane and i made it to the airport in plenty of time so we are making a plan: an itinerary sketch:

  • WEDNESDAY morning arrive at 9. Walk to the Milliennium Gloucester from the tube
  • poke about the area
  • THURSDAY the V&A
  • FRIDAY the Royal Wedding
  • SATURDAY Westminster Abbey tour and Portobello Road
  • SUNDAY open
  • MONDAY Kew Gardens

Let's see how that works out actually.

WEDNESDAY: MADE IT TO LONDON

The trip was painless, people en route were entertaining, always eager to congratulate us on the adventure or add their tips. A foursome traveling to Ireland recommended the Express Train from Heathrow to Paddington -- and that was sure a good idea.

Off the train however, Jane and I faced several flights of stairs to mount with not-light luggage. A Brit to the rescue, I mean, out of no where this really big guy appears and up he goes with my bag in one fist and Jane's in the other, his son grinning behind him. He did this for 3 flights, got us on the right tube and off and was glad to do it. Jez and son Nathan made our London entry lighter! A perfect welcome!

So then to Gloucester Road exit and up to see our little corner of London for a week. Greeted by those lovely corner flower markets, breath taking architecture and cool air and warm sun. Love it already!

Our hotel just a block away, we clean up and find a good burger -- one of my favorite spots -- the Green Door -- I remember it from 2007 -- they have killer Chocolate Fondant but now we just want beef and British chips.

And a 'wee nap!'

These pictures are great, Jana. While the Royal Wedding isn't my thing, I'm really glad you got to go there. And now you've made me want to plan a trip across the pond. Enjoy!

If you have time on wedding day, you may want to visit Old Spitalfields Market for your own fun fashion finds - Friday is fashion day, and there's always great food to be had too. Lots of handmade items and creative, interesting things from area fashion students. One of my favorite markets in London! http://www.oldspitalfieldsmarket.com/the-market/friday-market.html
