Veteran Wak fan's canopy stands above all others
Sporting a Grateful Dead and a Chicago Cubs flag, Stacy Peters' canopy looks like a castle, when compared to smaller tents at Clinton State Park. Two grills, six coolers, two big plastic storage units, several tents and tons of folding chairs bring a little bit of home to Wakarusa. The Wichita native has been to every Wakarusa festival since it began in 2003."By year five, we have a lot of gear," she said. "We just buy a little bit more every year. With 15 people it goes up and comes down easy."She and 15 friends keep busy between shows playing washers, Bocce ball and grilling food. She was first attracted to the festival in 2003, when she heard one of her favorite artists, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise, was playing. The band is playing again this year. She's been impressed by a number of bands at Wakarusa in years past, including Robert Randolph and the Family Band and JJ Grey & MoFro.The most essential festival tool?"The most important thing is 15 people to help," she said. Also essential is bug spray."And clearly we like to drink a little beer. And you need the music," she said.

Award winning journalism at its best. Hmm…maybe a friggin' picture of the tent would be a nice touch?!
