Tom, anyone who thinks Obama falls behind Bush when it comes to national security needs to just look at the skyline of New York City to see that this isn't true.

TOB, Chavez was actually elected and twice re-elected, whether we Americans like it or not. As far as the going to prison bit, in an over the top manner Penn was suggesting that people who say they are part of the news media shouldn't be able to just tell lies, and that this is what should be punishable by prison time. It was a gross and dumb thing to say, and besides, who really cares what Sean Penn has to say besides Fox News?

Sadly, because of the pro-Chavez and throw journalists in prison bit, what Penn had to say about the very real problems facing Haiti in the very near future was completely overlooked by Fox Snooze and the other snooze media outlets. Just goes to show you, if you ever have something important to say while on the Bill Maher show, don't get flip.

Just remember, there is no "I" in Sean Penn.

I am pretty far left, I also am not anti-socialist though I am a democratic socialst with free-market tendencies.

However, that has nothing to do with Chavez.

He is no more more a Socialist than Reagan was a compassionate conservitive.

Just as there was nothing compassionate about Reagan, the Socialist label does not reflect Chavez.

he is an opportunist. THe Organization of American States themselves has just released a report on the extreme human rights abuses in VZ. He has funded terrorism in Peru, Equador, Colombia and Bolivia to try and create a South American union in wich he is a grand dictator. He hires thugs in Peru to penetrate normal protests to create havoc and violence. He seeks opportunity in situations like the great Peruvian earthquake of a couple years ago to try and destabalize the country.

His enemies either dissapear or are jailed on charges without evidence. Provinces that do not elect chavistas see their hospitals and schools close, see food for the poor programs dissapear and generally do not get government programs such as road maintenance...force people to either elect chavistas or suffer greatly.

he is an opportunist, nothing more and while I would be excited for the chance to call Bush the devil to his face, Chavez is not the man to do it as he is just as scarey, dangerous and as big a liar.

I would love to see Chavez fall, and i would laugh to see penn go right along with him, ingorant dolt.

I am sick and tired of these Hollywood Actors who make a few movies and a some money in the bank thinking they are somehow amazingly gifted with intelligence.... Sean Penn is an idiot, Charlie Sheen is an idiot, Jane Fonda is an idiot, Jenny McCarthy is an idiot...just to name a few.

They need to stick to acting and looking pretty for the magazines and stay out of politics...I don't care about their opinions.

Loveths, rather harsh on the restricting of freedom of speech, don't ya think? Just because you become an actor doesn't mean you give up your rights as an American. They have the right to speak, and we as Americans have the right to roll our collective eyes at them if we choose. They have every right to say what they think is right, even when we feel they are terribly wrong.

I mean, I'd never tell Fred Thompson to stay out of politics just because he is an actor. Why is it that only left-leaning actors are ever criticized for getting into politics?

pilgrem, I am not a fan of STalin either, of course, but he did stay focused on his message, even if he strayed from it to gain power just like Chavez is.

However, Chavez really does not stick to his message and offers class and privelage all the time when it suits him..is a mauist when it suits him.... and holds elections to try and pretend he is domocratic in process when it suits him, though since he lost his first election to change the Constitution, he really changed how he does that real fast.

Tom, I'm not surprised by the polls reflecting disatisfaction with Washington. These are hards times we are in, and some people really did think the mess Obama was left with could be cleaned up in one year. I knew better than that. As far as hurting, I can't imagine the hurt we would be under now if John "economy is fundamentally sound" McCain and Sarah "I quit" Palin had been elected. That would have been real hurting.

Me personally? No, I'm not hurting because I'm a realist, and as I've said before (and despite Sean Penn's antics), Obama will be re-elected.

Chuck Norris really shouldn't be in politics...he's kinda crazy. However, if he ever did get into politics his election paraphernalia would be priceless. I can just imagine the t-shirts...

I didn't say all actors were stupid...just most of them. And yes, they have a right to voice their opinion...however, I do find it irritating when their opinion gets touted around like it matters.

I love the West Wing for example, I think it was a great show. However, when Martin Sheen starts getting interviewed like he has some expert opinion because he played the President of the United States on television...well...I just find that irritating.
