Treasure Hunt # 5 – FOUND

Image

Congratulations to Cap'n Morgann. . . who, with a wee bit of help from Dad and Mom, found where Putnam hid the offertory plates! (Near the East Shelter of Centennial Park.) Please congratulate her and her scurvy crew. The story, riddle and clues are shown below

Putnam hadn’t asked to carry the offertory plates to the camp office after the Vespers service. Nope. He’d been volunteered by a camp counselor, who said it would instill in him trust and respect for others. The Christian summer camp had been bad enough. That’s where momma sent him after the salt shaker incident.

It was easy enough to switch the collected alms of a ragtag youth congregation with pennies, chewing gum, a burned barbie doll head, a dog whistle and anything else he could find in his pockets. He hid the real collection in the woods, which he planned to dip into each day to pay for his candy allotment at the canteen.

Putnam never got the chance. He was expelled from the camp the very next morning and is currently memorizing Bible verses for his momma, beginning with the commandment: “Thou shall not steal.”

This was definitely worse than camp, Putnam thought. He could just picture mamma sitting on the couch with her legs underneath her like trapped baby seals. And to make matters worse, he would have to recite the rest of the summer while she poured steams of salt over her pork rinds. Putnam smiled as he recalled something about a guy named Lot whose wife turned into a pillar of salt. He wondered if something like that might happen to momma one day.

Now it’s your chance to find the collection plates that Putnam hid. Maybe, if you follow your conscience, you’ll return them to the camp counselor to make amends for Putnam. (Or, as with previous treasures, you could keep it for a few slushys on a hot summer day.)

Here’s your riddle followed by the ground rules. If you have any questions, send me an email at dave_lig@hotmail.com
