Treasure Hunt # 4 - FOUND!

Congratulations to gaiapapaya . . .

who found the heart withing a heart treasure at Clinton Park (5th & Maine). The background story is below. I've filled in the clues to the riddle that follows.

The story is as old as the Montagues and Capulets. He was a security guard who carried a lunch pail and she was an attorney who carred a briefcase. They worked in the same high-rise office building in a large city. They met one night when she summoned security with a silent alarm. She was meeting with a client who had suddenly become threatening. The guard arrived within moments and reconnoitered the outer office. He saw silhouettes struggling as angular shadows against the plexiglass door. He tried the handle. Locked. He side-kicked it open. She was held by her neck against the wall, the client slowly squeezing her life away.

When she awoke in the hospital she was surrounded by flowers, friends and family. She remembered very little of the event that led her there and nothing of her rescue. After a sojourn of recovery, she learned a security guard in her office building had saved her life. When she returned to work, she sought him out to thank him, but he had left his job some time before over the unwanted attention from the press and other employees.

To show her appreciation, however, she sent a gift to his last known address. It was a heart within a heart to highlight the true character he showed in saving her. The outer heart to symbolize caring; the inner heart to symbolize caring in action. While the former has worth, the latter is gold.

Now it’s your chance to find the double treasure and forward her gift of thanks to the man who saved her life. (Or you can keep it for a few slushys on a hot summer day.)

Here’s your riddle followed by the ground rules. If you have any questions, send me an email at Dave_lig@hotmail.com

Riddle:

Orange Twisted (not a drink as suggested, but rather a spiral slide at Clinton Park. However, the drink sounds mighty good.)

Stony tongues 4 and 5 (between the 4th and 5th outcroppings of stone)

The jutting stone (behind the stone in the middle that sticks out a bit)

Join me in congratulating gaiapapaya and family. As soon as we figure out the photo transfer, I'll get it posted. Again, thanks for playing!

I absolutely love your background stories, Dave. Even though I am challenged when it comes to seeking the treasure, nothing would keep me from coming on to read your latest "creative piece". Wonderfully done! I can't help but hope a couple of lovers find this one.....

  2. punkrockmom (Nikki May) says…

I agree. I am NOT good at these things, but they are at least fun to read.

  3. schula (anonymous) says…

I agree with everything Ronda says. I love reading these for the background that you write.

  4. liggyon (David Lignell) says…

Thanks for the kind words. These hunts are fun for Bryce (my youngest) and me to create. A good escape from the day-to-day world, too. Glad you enjoy reading them.

For the other hunters: given the riddle is brief, I will answer three of your questions sent to dave_lig@hotmail.com with 'yes' or 'no' replies. And because "treasures" are typically hidden in parks within the Lawrence area, your questions might include park names, such as, "Is it hidden at Dad Perry Park West?" Good way to elminate extra time and effort.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Your stories are good. I don't have much hope of finding them. I think orange twisted refers to a curly slide but how many parks have one of those?

  6. beerdrinkingfool (anonymous) says…

so far i have found 5 parks that have a twisty slide but they more yellow than orange .

  7. justbegintowrite (Ronda Miller) says…

beer is already slurring his words...he left out "are" as in rrrrrrr matie.....or is that arrrr....oh, heck, I give up.

  8. gaiapapaya (anonymous) says…

Found it! At Clinton Park (5th & Maine). Orange helter skelter slide on the playground and then the stone steps and wall. Or the castle as we know it at our house.

  9. liggyon (David Lignell) says…

Whoa! I go for a quick swim and gaia already finds it! Gaia, please send a photo to dave_lig@hotmail.com. I'll post it along with the clues to celebrate your hunt. Congrats!

  10. Irish (Leslie Swearingen) says…

Damn! Next time I'll know better than to write a suggestion on here. Private mail. Right. So, so I get partial credit for suggesting that the orange might be a slide? I'm just mad at me.

  11. liggyon (David Lignell) says…

    Irish,

Sounds like beer was on to the slide idea, too, though probably too much rum made him color blind. However, you get partial credit for all that is good in life, at least I'll know who is the instigator of all good things :-)

  12. gaiapapaya (anonymous) says…

I think I did send you two e-mails with pix, but I'm a little tech challenged, so let me know if I didn't.

I thought I knew where it was when I read this first thing this a.m., but couldn't get the kids to go with me til this afternoon.

  13. beerdrinkingfool (anonymous) says…

clinton is right across from my house ahh pooop

  14. liggyon (David Lignell) says…

Thought I saw a pirate flag, beer. Arrrg!

  15. punkrockmom (Nikki May) says…

See, I was trying to think of an anagram for orange. So, that's why I'll never win!

  16. Logan72 (Alia Ahmed) says…

    David,

Another clever hunt and very colorful story.

  17. RETICENT_IRREVERENT (Ronaldo Ignacio) says…

    Gosh,
I was wasting my time crusing bars trying to find a bartender giving Seagrams orange twisted gin mouthshots to 5 stoned chicks with jutting features.

  18. Logan72 (Alia Ahmed) says…

Reticent, It sounds like you had a good time, regardless. :~)

  19. liggyon (David Lignell) says…

Reticent, I understand the confusion. Unless they were tasting their orange twisteds at a public park, however, you can probably rule them out next time, jutting features and all.

  20. liggyon (David Lignell) says…

Hi Multi! Absolutely, next time. We'll have to figure out another dine and dash approach for Ronda, too. Sorry we missed you. August then.

  21. schula (anonymous) says…

Hey Multi! My neck is less stiff but my lower back is bothering me. Took a hot bath hoping it would help, but not much. Will try to take it easy today.

So glad you liked the dessert. It takes a while to put it all together and I don't make it very often.

And, yes I have internet at home again. Using Lawrence Freenet.

  22. RETICENT_IRREVERENT (Ronaldo Ignacio) says…

    Mr Lignell,
Must have missed the public park thingy...

  23. Irish (Leslie Swearingen) says…

    Thank you David. :-)
    reticent_irreverent i love your comment.
Orange twisted gin mouthshots, eh? Sounds interesting, have to try one. The recipe I found showed it in a martini glass.

  24. anagram (anonymous) says…

Aargh! I was raiding coastal villages and missed this hunt entirely. Next time, Lignell, next time...
