The Lantern's Glow By. L. Don Oliver

Comes a light through the forest, Preying nocturnal creatures there; Their eerie shadows are dancing, But, she doesn't seem to care;

In the city of the vaulted, Where ghosts and goblins roam; A place that, soon one day, She will call her home;

The glow from her lantern, Upon her journey each night; Through the maze of the departed, Extinguishes her darkened fright;

Many dreams have come, And many dreams have gone; Through all these years, He was her only one;

She treasures all the moments, Together, they held past; Alas, life is so fleeting, Pleasured moments never last;

Silent words are spoken, Unto her cherished one; Soon she will join him, When life's tasks are done;

The snow gathers around her, But, deep in her heart she knows; Nothing seems to dismay her, As the cold wind blows;

The winds begin to dwindle, The snow turns to frozen rain; The only reality that sustains her, That she, will be with him again;

Silence of the Deep! By L. Don Oliver

A gentle refreshing sea breeze, Waves splashing upon the shore; Seabirds soaring above me; A beautiful new world to explore;

In the shadows of my soul, The world above me asleep; Slipping slowly beneath the waves, Into the silence of the deep;

Serenity of quite solitude Rainbow creatures swimming by; Lovely flowering coral reefs, One is thankful to be alive;

Where there's rhyme and reason No imperative schedule to keep; Controlling my own destiny, In the silence of the deep;

Sounds from a distant whale, Echoes that I can barely hear; Knowing that I am not alone, Deflates any questioning fear;

Bubbles from a fissure below, Up through the darkened steep; At peace with the world, In the silence of the deep;

When life has passed me by, Broken dreams never to mend; Things that I once enjoyed, Ever winding down to end;

If to die upon the morrow, From cause for eternal sleep; I pray thee my final rest, In the silence of the deep;

Seeds of the Unwanted! By L. Don Oliver

Snow melts and the rain falls, Turning the fields to a lustrous green; The life giving sun says good night, And the flickering stars are seen;

A seed is planted, Young shoots arise; An egg shell is broken, A young songbird flies;

Alas, the unwanted in the womb, The future is not theirs to see; They call out in great despair, "Who will cry for me";

For those of whom, Would not kill a fly; Have no real pity, When the unborn die;

With every loss, Is someone's pain; With every success, Is another ones gain;

For all that once was, And then ceased to be; They will never receive, Another new opportunity;

Thank you Heavenly Being, For your words that bless; That welcome the unwanted, With love and tenderness;

Begin the Beguine! By L. Don Oliver

A flight of scavengers, Circling above my house; I Can't smell any odor, Perhaps an unlucky mouse;

Their choice of my abode, This I may never know; Soaring in their little circle, As around and around they go;

Slowly they begin descending, Espying their apparent wrath; Realizing upon their approach, It's time to take a bath;

Lindsey! By L. Don Oliver

She's the beautiful ballerina, Pirouetting around the floor; A crowd of one stands and cheers, Then he screams for more;

Dancing the Swan Lake, Like no other could; Performing all the movements, That a lovely ballerina should;

Her arms fluttering gently, As she glides upon her toes; Marveling at the magic, As around and around she goes;

Her tiny little skirt swaying, Like a gentle morning breeze; The glory of the moment, Is all she wants to seize;

Excuse me for a moment, To wipe a tear from my eye; Her performance was so beautiful, That it may me cry;

Of course there's pride within me, Pride to always be told; This beautiful ballerina is my grand-daughter, Lindsey is seven years old;

Nature's Nectar! By L. Don Oliver

Storm clouds appear, Awakening one's fear, Building upon it's way; The lightening streaks, The thunder shrieks, Complaining along it's sway; The winds twirl, The clouds swirl, Rampaging over the plain; The nectar descends, To what depends, Upon the falling rain; The flowers grow, The streams flow, Down the mountain side, The rivers explore, To the ocean's shore, Where the sea birds abide; The Solar insist, Of the morning mist, To gather in the sky, Nature's Nectar will fall, To one and all, So they will never die;

Moral Character! By L. Don Oliver

Education, Experience, and Perseverance, Are the paths to one's goal; Tolerance, Compassion, and Charity, Are the avenues to one's soul;

The Responsibility is unto ourselves, To believe in that which we can achieve; With Innovation, Determination and Discipline, We can achieve that in which we believe;

To be Exceptional at what we attempt, Inspiration, Invention, Industry are the keys; To have Harmony within our lives; Humility, Self Actuation, Example are the fees;

Awareness of how others feel, Insults we must never coddle, Treating others with Respect. "The Golden Rule" is the model;

Doing everything within our power, To provide for the common good; Organization, Cooperation, and Commitment,
Are the prerequisites to be understood;

To succeed in the game of life, All must play by the rules; By preparing an even playing field, Equality, Courage, Action are the tools;

Have Forgiveness for the wrong others do, Be Considerate and show that we care; Be Grateful for what we have, And always Be Willing to share;

Trusting in the Honesty of one's self, To Accomplish that in which we apply; Believing in Family, Friends, and Country, Will make better citizens of you and I;

That Day (911) By L. Don Oliver

Worldly hope lost, Tragic misery bane; Winds of evil,
Exacting the pain;

Why it happened, Never to know; It's their calling, They must go;

Caring courageous people,
No self thought; Bravely rushed in, Where danger wrought;

(added verse) When it's over, Said and done; Each a hero, Every single one;

Earthly life vanquished, Heaven's fortunate gain; Now God's Angels, Preventing the vain;

The Statue! (U.S. Constitution)! By L. Don Oliver

It once was a beautiful statue, It was gracefully standing there; And through all it's many years. It was giving great love and care;

Once there was a feeling of freedom, Pointing Majestically toward the sky; Gathered within it's arms was hope, But alas, those days have gone by;

Now we are told to tear it down, Rendering it into a pile of dust; Viewing it as a pathetic relic, Worthy of only our disgust;

The meaning for which it stood, Now archaic with no charm; "THEY" are sculpturing a new one, That will never cause them harm;

Who are "THEY" one will ask, For "WE" are just the meek; "THEY" are the "Special Interests", And profit is what "THEY" seek;

Oh! the Torture! (At the hands of agents of the U.S. Government)

Wearing female panties on my head, Forced to march down a crowded street; Hearing all the hoots and hollers, That was to be my manly treat;

Led into a darkened room, Hands tied to a hook upon a wall, A masked man with a rawhide whip; There to hasten my impending fall;

Head shoved into a barrel of urine, That smelled to me a lot like beer; My head held under until I gasped, While trying to hold back my fear;

Floating there in that barrel, Were brown globs of who knows what, Head forced down until I ate one, That was their diabolical plot;

Led up to a fresh built scaffold, A noose placed around my neck; Blind folded and then pushed off, Frightful of my trip to heck(PC);

Bearing all of the mental anguish, From this intended assassination; To meet all of the humiliations, At my Chief Petty Officer initiation;
