Sporting KC vs. New England: Quick Critique

This game was frustrating to watch for a number of reasons.

These reasons include, but are not limited to, bad calls, missed calls, poor marking and players diving. The last is my biggest pet peeve when it comes to professional soccer. It’s cheap and it’s silly. That’s not why you play the game. I lose respect for every player I see dive, which unfortunately is way too many in the game today and in every country.

In Saturday’s game against the Revolution, KC players chose to dive. One of those dives won them a penalty kick that gave them a second half lead.

Then what happened is what I’ll call karma.

Quick Stats: Sporting KC once again had trouble getting shots on target, putting only five of 17 on frame.

Jimmy Nielson did not make a single save. He was 0-3.

Sporting KC had 10 corners to New England’s three and still couldn’t put anything away.

I’ll discuss this more tomorrow. If Peter Vermes is letting this one settle before saying much, so will I.
