Narkalark

Self-described as blending GameBoys, pianos, analog synthesizers, vintage drum machines, live percussion, and noise improvisation, Narkalark is a local electronic act whose mission is to prove that electronic music has substance. If you’re familiar with their November debut four-track EP, you are familiar with their high energy, bright pops of sound presented on “Metaphorest” and the slowed down melancholic piano soundtrack “Wildflower,” that shows off their great range in such a small sampling of what they will bring us at the Bottleneck. Look forward to new material and a more mature performance (their last Bottleneck show was the first time they’d ever performed live). They will be joined by Real Sugar and 18 Carat Affair.
Friday, March 14, at The Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St., at 9 p.m.

#ASSJAMZ

Don’t act like you don’t look forward to this every month. It’s been a while since the last #ASSJAMZ dance party, and with DJ Dat Butt and DJ Booty Sweat bringing you the latest and greatest booty shaking songs, it looks like college students will have to schedule their spring break getaways for Sunday so they don’t miss this edition. How can you skip an event that reads in all caps on Facebook (signifying the importance): “BREATHE IN THE MAGIC, FEEL YOUR AURA EXPAND AS YOU GO ON A DREAM JOURNEY TO FIND YOUR SPIRIT ANIMAL. IF YOU’RE WONDERING, OUR SPIRIT ANIMAL IS BOOTY.” Whatever that means, be there.
Saturday, March 15, at The Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St., at 9 p.m., FREE for 21+, $5 for 18+.

West Side Folk Presents: Ashley Davis and Liz Carroll

For all you bluegrass fanatics, KPR’s “Trail Mix” is celebrating 20 years on the air with a special St. Patrick’s Day concert featuring singer-songwriter Ashley Davis and fiddler Liz Carroll. Davis is a Lawrence native who plays both contemporary folk songs and traditional Irish music (she is more popular in Ireland than the U.S.). Carroll is an world-renowned fiddler (who’s played at the White House for St. Patrick’s Day) of Irish descent. The two will technically have separate sets, but I’m told they will join each other’s performances sporadically, and that there will be some surprise musician guests as well. Not so surprising for a “Trail Mix” hosted concert; a station that plays bluegrass, Americana, Celtic, folk and alt-country all in one show.
Sunday, March 16, at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., at 7:30 p.m., $20 general admission.

Childish Gambino [KANSAS CITY PICK]

Troy Barnes on “Community” and one of your favorite stand-up comedians, Donald Glover is coming to Kansas City under his rap name, Childish Gambino, for his Deep Web Tour. Supporting latest album, Because the Internet, there is also a special app called Deep Web that Gambino will encourage people to take advantage of, which will allow attendees to draw and tweet things straight to an onstage screen behind him. Starting as a 25-minute short film, “Clapping for the Wrong Reasons,” and then turning into a complete 75-page screenplay to accompany his album, his sophomoric “Because the Internet” was one of the most elaborate albums of 2013.
Monday, March 17, at The Midland, 1228 Main St., Kansas City, Mo., at 8 p.m., $29.50-33.50.

Aan

Hailing from Portland, Oregon, Aan is an experimental rock quartet who just released their debut album “Amor Ad Nauseum,” in January of this year. The latin phrase meaning “love to the point of sickness,” which explains how they feel about their long, arduous journey to recording and releasing this record. Forming in 2007, the group didn’t take their music careers seriously until four years later when they added a drummer to band. They’ve toured extensively with Built to Spill and were hand-picked to tour with Smashing Pumpkins.

NOTE: Party Damage Records (their label) is offering two pairs of tickets to the Replay show so if you’re interested in getting to see Aan without paying any cover email press@partydamagerecords.com. Winners will be selected at random!
Monday, March 17, at Replay, 946 Massachusetts St., at 10 p.m. $3.
