Halloween Parties
Make sure you get your live music on by going to any of the Halloween festivities listed on the bottom of my posting about The Delta Saints, who will be performing with Lawrence’s own Middle Twin at the Bottleneck.

Foxy by Proxy ( w/ the Conflicts)

If you’re not ready to stop celebrating Halloween, enjoy the Halloween hoopla presented by the Foxy by Proxy burlesque group who put together a series of spooky (yet sexy?) stories for your viewing pleasure. There is talk of demons, monsters and blood sucking vampires, and scantily clad women, if that’s what you’re into. Wear your costume, and if you don’t have one yet, check out these creative tips from two foxy ladies.
Friday, Nov. 1, at the Granada (1020 Massachusetts St.) 9 p.m. $10.

Deer Tick

Known as heavy boozers, Deer Tick is bringing their alt-country, folk, blues, indie rock (they’ve been labeled as everything so insert your own genre here) to the Bottleneck. Their latest album “Negativity” was released at the end of September, showing a more sensitive side to the band’s previous compositions, a result of John McCauley’s painful split with former fiance Nikki Darlin (from Those Darlins). Recent news is painting Deer Tick as a less rowdy, more sober and more poetic band. Don’t take their word for it; check them out for yourselves.
Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Bottleneck (737 New Hampshire St.) 9 p.m. $15.

Shlohmo & XXYYXX

L.A. native Henry Laufer aka Shlohmo is known as a 20-year-old “lo-fi beat junkie” and psychedelic hip-hop, funk enthusiast. Having grown up listening to DJ Shadow, Amon Tobin, and M83, his alternative, obscure style hasn’t exactly earned itself a clear label, but his self-taught production skills creating synthy melodic sounds and percussive bass have certainly gained him some traction in the music industry.
Sunday, Nov. 3, at the Granada (1020 Massachusetts St.) 7 p.m. $15 in advance.

Caroline Glaser

Caroline Glaser was on the last season of NBC’s “The Voice,” first backed by Blake Shelton and then passed onto Adam Levine to mentor her after the battle rounds. Now looking to move from TV to touring, 18-year-old Glaser will bring her mellow singer-songwriter vibe to Lawrence and is likely to charm all of you. She will be joined by friend Mel Washington.
Monday, Nov. 4, at the Bottleneck (737 New Hampshire St.) 8 p.m. $11.

Toro y Moi

Credited with branding the chillwave genre and starting that movement, Chaz Bundick aka Toro y Moi is a producer and singer-songwriter that combines electronic, hip hop and dance music. His latest album, “Anything in Return” showcases the producer/songwriter dichotomy presented on his two previous albums with his West Coast influence, but the temperament on this album is uninhibited and darker than usual. One things for sure, his work continues to prove that this artist is not ready to be confined to just one genre.
Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Granada (1020 Massachusetts St.) 8 p.m. $15 in advance.

August Burns Red

In case you couldn’t gather this much from the name, August Burns Red is a metalcore band that is intent on branching out in new directions for their sound with each album they make. Their latest, “Rescue and Restore” blends piano, cello, violin, trumpet, and various percussive elements to exceed the bounds of a standard metalcore band. “Rescue & Restore is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz,” says guitarist JB Brubaker.
Wednesday, Nov. 6, at the Granada (1020 Massachusetts St.) $20 in advance.
