This will be a place to learn more about the personal lives of your favorite KU athletes.At media day on Tuesday, I sat down with Jake and asked him some, well, off-the-wall questions.Here’s the transcript of the chat.KU running back Jake Sharp_JN: If Jake Sharp and Chuck Norris were in a 40-yard dash, who would win?_JS: (laughing) Man. Alone with himself, Chuck Norris? I don’t think I could compete with that._JN: So you’re saying Chuck Norris?_JS: Nobody beats Chuck Norris. Not even Bruce Lee could mess with Chuck Norris._JN: So Jake Sharp can’t mess with him?_JS: No way. No way._JN: I hear you like fly fishing._JS: Absolutely. All day, everyday. Well fly fishing is basically God’s gift to the world (smiles). It’s really a majestic form of fishing. I plan on doing a lot of it when my career here at the University of Kansas is over. It’s something everybody should get into._JN: And you like freestyle motocross, too?_JS: Absolutely. As long as Coach Mangino doesn’t know (laughs). I’m definitely into the X Games. The guys kind of laugh at me, but as soon as we’re done with meetings, I run over to the dorm and I usually catch the end of Moto X. I’m definitely into that kind of thing._JN: Who’s your favorite?_JS: As far as freestyle, I’m a Travis Pastrana fan. Ricky Carmichael’s actually coming strong in the freestyle, but as far as the race, Ricky Carmichael is probably my idol._JN: What do your teammates say to you when they see you watching the X Games?_JS: (laughs) I don’t know. I’ve never talked to them (during it). As far as my teammates, they just kind of laugh at me and tell me I’m crazy. _JN: Didn’t they know that already?_JS: Yeah, they pretty much know I’m going to be on the edge regardless._JN: I read that one of your favorite players is Walter Payton. Why is that?_JS: Sweetness. Walter Payton [represents] what I think it means to be a running back and what it means to be a person. There’s been a lot of great running backs in the NFL, but as far as people, I think he really is a good role model._JN: What about his personality did you admire?_JS: I just liked the way he really cared about people and his teammates. He wasn’t all about Walter, things like that. He just wanted to help his team. That’s the way you ought to be, period._JN: Favorite Guns N’ Roses song?_JS: Oh man. Well probably any song off Appetite for Destruction, G N’ R Lies, Use Your Illusion I and II and their live album ’97. That would be good. _JN: What’s one TV show you watch that I might be surprised that you watch?_JS: TV, I don’t know. I don’t get a chance to watch a lot of TV. Oh, actually, no, time out. Ted Nugent, definitely his hunting show, Spirit of the Wild. It’s definitely a good one.
