Gearing Up for "The Big Day"
Earlier this week I posted my favorite grocery deals for this week...you can find that post HERE. I'm going to focus on other deals I see in this week's inserts today. As always...be sure to let us know what you find!
Growing up my mom, her sister and my grandma would wake at the crack of dawn the day after Thanksgiving and head out to do some major shopping. What that usually entailed was getting in the mall, looking around...then stopping for coffee and breakfast...wandering around...then stopping for lunch...you see where this is going. But they looked forward to it every year...the time they spent together...the fun of the outing...and they had strict rules about others infringing on "The Big Day"...it was sacred. If you want to see a good round up of Black Friday offers see my post HERE.
Later this week Julie will be filling you in on some of the HOT deals to be had in stores.... as I'm not as brave as she is ... I prefer to stay home in my jammies and find deals online...I will be posting them throughout the weekend...but mainly Friday and Monday at SuperJenn so check there to see what I find. Looking for something specific? Email me and I'll be sure to keep my eye out for you!
If you are planning on purchasing a Nintendo Wii this season...there is a great deal on a Wii/Wii Fit Plus bundle at Amazon that ends today...so act fast! Details are HERE.
Wolfe Camera in Topeka has Nikon Coolpix cameras on sale. The S220 is $120 down from $150 and the new S570 is $150 down from $200. You can order the S570 for the same price at Amazon and the S220
is slightly cheaper, both qualify for free shipping. You can also take the Wolfe's ad from this Sunday's insert into Target and they will price match it for you. That being said...I have a Nikon CoolPix that I bought for the specific purpose of tossing in my diaper bag and hauling around with us. I love it...it serves its purpose well. We have also had GREAT service from Wolfe's in Topeka...so if you are prone to buying and supporting local...and you need a camera...it would be worth a trip over.
There is an insert in this week's paper from Kitchen Aid that details the information on mail in rebates on several of their appliances. The rebate is good on items purchased between 11/19 and 12/31. I'm seeing lots of sales on Kitchen Aid Artisan 5 qt. Mixers this week...Kohl's...Sears...all for $269.99 AFTER this mail in rebate. You can purchase the same Artisan 5 qt Mixerat Amazon for $259.99 BEFORE the mail in rebate..and it qualifies for free shipping. That is $40 cheaper and no lines or crowds. I absolutely love my Kitchen Aid mixer...it is a staple household appliance in my opinion.
Here is the final word on Target and their price matching: They WILL honor the ToysR Us fliers that are circulated in the Journal World. I went in and talked to a manager and asked them to please clarify with their staff and was assured it should not be a problem. The reasoning is that since the ad runs in our paper...they are a competing retailer. There are simply TOO MANY toy sales to be listed here...although the sale prices are great at Target..be sure to double check the Toys R Us flier as some of their prices are better....matched with the Target coupons...you can get some very inexpensive toys!
Looking for culinary inspiration for Thanksgiving? You can download a FREE eBook full of Thanksgiving recipes from Quality Health. I have a post with full details HERE.
Target has GE Reveal 4 pk Lightbulbs for $2. Both the 10/4 and 11/01 Smart Source inserts had a coupon for $1/1 GE Reveal bringing these down to $1/ea. The Reveal CFL bulbs are also on sale but I don't have a price yet... you can use the same $1/1 coupons PLUS print a $1/1 Target coupon to stack with it. If you see the price on these other bulbs be sure to let us know!
And finally... Michael's has a coupon in their insert good tonight only from 4-9pm for an additional 15% off your entire purchase..INCLUDING sale items. Michael's will also honor competitor coupons and as long as you are using different kinds of coupons...you can use several in one transaction. This coupon doesn't work on Christmas Trees.
Be sure to check in throughout the week...its bound to be busy!! Let us know whatever deals you find that are worth sharing!

What day do the circular's come out in the paper for "Black Friday"? I picked up a Sunday paper, thinking they would be in there..

I will never buy another CFL bulb again. Sure, they last a long time, but when they do burn out, they will melt, emit sparks, pour out toxic smoke, and would've probably burst into flames if I hadn't been here to turn it off. They are dangerous. GE knows this and refuses to do anything about it. Chinese crap is what they are.

Thanks for the clarification on the price match with Target. That will help out on the toy shopping!

okay did Checkers get included in that link? haven't looked yet.
still wondering about the validity of this ad passing as a blog.

If you feel that Checkers is being passed up, then post the deals that you have found there instead of griping about how they weren't mentioned this time.
Anyhow, what does Checkers have to do with deals on cameras, Wii game systems, KitchenAid mixers, toys or crafting supplies?

For what it's worth (and I'm not endorsing Gnome's grousing about this blog), he's obviously referencing the link (which he says in so many words: "okay did Checkers get included in that link?") mentioned in the first paragraph, to wit: "Earlier this week I posted my favorite grocery deals for this week...you can find that post HERE."
He's not talking about the camera deals, etc., that are discussed in the present blog.
Carry on......
And, Gnome~ I bet you could have clicked on that link and found out for yourself whether Checkers was included in the same amount of time it took you to whine about the blog being an "ad."

It is great that we have you here to read bearded_gnome's mind for us. Obviously.
Perhaps it is my fault for assuming that when a blog is talking about gearing up for Black Friday deals, it is not referring to grocery shopping, especially when after the link that bearded_gnome is obviously referring to, it specifically states, "I'm going to focus on other deals I see in this week's inserts today. As always...be sure to let us know what you find!"
Carry on...
Obviously.

Don't forget to think ahead. I happened down the markdown isle and picked up three big bunches of artificial tulips for $1.50--perfect for Memorial Day.
misplacedcheesehead (anonymous) says…
Good thing you found the tulips, femail. My lost babies' grandfather is buried in a cemetary where the groundskeepers had the arrogance to mow over the mini rose bushes I planted. If anyone mows over your artificial tulips, it'll just mess up the lawn mower-Ha!
As for holiday savings, I think I'll unplug my computer on Black Friday. I just finished doing a bunch of Christmas and Hanukkah shopping online, so I'd better stop right now.
Keeping it simple this year; sewing a lot of gifts.

Except for companies that post their ads online early the local Black Friday ads don't show up in the local paper until Thanksgiving day.
