Welcome to my blog, "Round About Lawrence with the Happy Curmudgeon.The Happy Curmudgeon (HC, for short), is a life-long resident of Lawrence, an observer of Lawrence and the political scene here for over 50 years.The HC has even been lucky enough to occasionally see the community come together to make progress, although what usually is seen as progress is, in reality, more discussion.We can cuss and discuss better than any community - we just can't DO anything. It's enough to turn this frequently happy fellow in to a lifelong curmudgeon.Once in a while, though, something happens in the HC's beloved community that puts a smile back on his face. Witness today's report in the LJW that we have a positive step in seeing - maybe in the HC's lifetime? - a South Lawrence Trafficway; the expansion of the Haskell wetlands (I'm old, remember?) in preparation for the trafficway.It's enough to bring a tear to my eye!Having grown up in that area, nothing would make the HC happier than seeing the trafficway actually go somewhere beyond Iowa street. Just think, the vote we took in favor of the trafficway might actually, someday, MEAN something!
