Sorry for the fracas

First of all, I’d like to apologize.

I was involved in a little altercation the other night that never should have happened.

I’ll spare you the gory details, but I and a driver got into it over a right-of-way issue at an intersection used by both bikes and cars. I thought it was my turn to go; the driver disagreed.

The argument escalated well beyond where it should have, and I regret how it reflects on both cyclists and drivers. After all, we’re all part of the same road-using family.

I’m embarrassed, and I hope all my readers will find a way to forgive me for a silly argument over a piece of asphalt.

Further, I’d like to apologize for comments I’ve made on some social-networking sites that might have contributed to this conflagration.

It was inappropriate for me to talk about “bikaz” and “drivaz.” I realize now that my words reflect on all cyclists, and I apologize for any transportational slurs I might have invoked.

The truth is, cyclists and drivers are each others’ biggest fans.

I plan to be out there cheering every car I see, and I hope to have a few drivers cheering for me, too.

Can’t we all just get along?
