Masked Gunman At Wal-Mart

Holy Moly! A masked gunman-yes, carrying a gun- walked into Wal-mart last night and walked to the Western Union counter. I was unable to discern if he actually got any money, due to the fact this happened during my 3-year-olds birthday party and I was having a heck of a time hearing the scanner above the chaos. The guy got away, and when I went to bed last night they were still looking for him. Check out the details at www.lawrencepolicescanner.blogspot.com

Lots of other stuff you don't know about either...

Why were you listening to a police scanner during your child's birthday?

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Is that really all you got out of that story?

RoeDapple 4 years, 6 months ago

Party? Alright! Door prizes or party favors?

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Of course there was ice cream, and party favors, and pizza, and pop and all that stuff that 3 year-olds love.

RoeDapple 4 years, 6 months ago

Hey, I'll be 63 in April and I'm taking notes! Sounds like my kinda party!

Did you post all those minute by minute updates on the police scanner blog?

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

Chelsea - you my dear need to get a life. I went to that site. It seems all you do all day is post every little thing you hear on the scanner on there. Do you actually spend time with this 3 year old you claim to have? Sorry, but it just seems wrong that you feel it's your duty to regurgitate every little thing you hear on the scanner and some of your comments are not very nice that you add to what you heard on the scanner. Do you really think it's important to post such things as a couple fighting in a parking lot, room mates arguing, etc....?

wendywilcox 4 years, 6 months ago

gatekeeper- what's your problem??? It seems like it must be important to do this because it sure seems they have have a lot of readers. And what's wrong with writing "not very nice" comments? Your comment here is obviously not designed to create nice feelings. Why don't you go and get a life and create something that people will actually read and enjoy????

Gatekeeper, Who the hell appointed you gatekeeper of Chelsea's life. Is your life so miserable that you have plenty of time to peruse the comments section of the LJW and write nasty, gratuitous comments as you see fit? Chelsea's relationship with her daughter, as well as how she spends her time, is none of your damned business. So do us all a favor, and bite your fingers before keyboarding.

And by the way, there are a lot of homebound folks--retirees and disabled folks--who get a kick out of reading what Chelsea writes. What Chelsea provides is a free public service to those who need a little diversion and entertainment. Shame on you for attacking her.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Thanks Synchophant! I am really, really glad to hear that you enjoy it.

Bob Forer 4 years, 6 months ago

You're welcome. Folks love to be entertained with both real and play life police stories. Witness all the crime dramas on TV and at the movie theatre. You find me one person who has watched "Cops" at least once and not enjoyied it or otherwise found it interesting, then I'd say you have found a liar.

somedude20 4 years, 6 months ago

hmmmm, showing half of a woman's breasts good, making a vague reference to masturbation by saying I needed four tissues to read a post due to the suggestive ad you had next to the post is bad. things that make you say hmmm

Looking back at these comments....I gotta say, this really hurt my feelings. A few of the other comments did too. I just don't get why someone who doesn't even know me would lash out and say such mean things? I responded in anger, which is childish and I regret it. I have learned from this hurtful post, and from a few others though. I will not engage in silly little arguements with people who say mean things for no reason, and I won't take things so personally.

But I'm still going to write my blog, because I enjoy it.

monkey_c 4 years, 6 months ago

Sheesh people...........everybody should have a hobby, even mothers. God Forbid, now Chelsea, you go watch that little one, even if she/he is sleeping, you watch and wait for him/her to wake up...don't you dare do a single other thing. Unless you had plans to bake some cupcakes. ONLY, for the child mind you.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Thanks monkey. It is a hobby, and it is very simple to multi-task. Have you read the blog? Do you like it?

The nerve of your three year old having a birthday party during all of the excitement on your police scanner.

I also hope that the masked man will check your schedule the next time he does something like this.

How inconsiderate.

xr650rsource 4 years, 6 months ago

Does anyone have anything intelligent to blog about this, or is this ljworld blog site strictly for insulting people? The police scanner site could be a valuable tool in apprehending the armed gunman! What if someone saw something, and didn't realize it until they went to this site? And then that info led to a capture? Better watch what you say about people. You might be eating your words soon, and it will taste like crow.

"he who knows all", "autie", and "gatekeeper", consider this

What if your child was abducted? What if a neighbor saw something, and didn't put 2+2 together until they saw the blog site? We need all the help we can get when it comes to crime.

There has already been a case where a lost senior citizen with Alzheimer's , was found and recovered because of the police scanner blog. It was 20 degrees outside that day.

Would you like to respond to this "he who knows all"? What if that was your mother?

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

The things you list are important. Go look at what's being posted. It's not about real crimes that need the public's assitance. Real important knowing a dog was left outside and she thinks it's no big deal cuz dogs have fur. That's helping the community! Sorry, I believe in spending time with your kids. As a retired teacher, I know all to well how little time so many parents really spend with their kids. I made my comments because it appears that this person posts stuff all the time, never taking a break. Good lord. Most of what's on there has no importance to anyone except nosey people that have to be in everyone's business.

If my child was abducted, there would be an AMBER ALERT and the entire state would be put on alert. I wouldn't expect someone to be solving the case from reading a BLOG.

My father has Alzheimers. If he went missing (won't happen, we take good care of him and he's always with someone), once again a missing persons alert would be issued. It would be all over the news like the one's we see quite frequently. I'm not talking about the cr*p news from Lawrence, KC and Topeka.

I also have an uncle who's a cop. I'd let the cops handle these things and not rely on a bored mom at home that has to post every little thing she hears across the scanner. That site might be worth while if it wasn't filled with all the junk that's posted on there. Do we need to know the dog catcher just caught a dog? Someone at a bank got served. Oh boy. A tree got damaged by a tree service. Man, I'm sure glad someone's there to tell us about these important things.

Get this junk off the site so important things like you mentioned are noticed.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

You could write your own site and stop reading mine. Just saying. You obviously read it A LOT. It is really easy to multi-task. Try it, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish in one day.

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

Today was the first I heard of it and went and checked it out and saw it mostly cr*p. You could make it something good, but chose to regurgitate every tiny thing you hear on that scanner.

Don't even start lady. Full time job, children, taking care of parents and still living a great life. So sorry all you have is that scanner.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

is it hard to be so much better than everyone else? I bet it's lonely up there.

wendywilcox 4 years, 6 months ago

wow, gatekeeper. I am really willing to bet you don't have any friends. And Chelsea is right, why don't you write your own blog if you're so smart? Wonder how many people would tune in to that? Just sound out the big words...it's easy.

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

Writing a blog regurgitating what you hear on a scanner takes no smarts.

Bob Forer 4 years, 6 months ago

"My father has Alzheimers. If he went missing (won't happen, we take good care of him and he's always with someone)"

You're a pretty damned bold and arrogant person. My late father had Alzheimiers. I was his primary caregiver, had help most of the day, and followed professional and conventional advice in making the house safe and escape proof. Well, one morning at around 5:30 he managed to sneak off. Someone forgot to lock the tamper-proof safety lock on one of the sliding glass doors. He made it two blocks before a neighbor called the police, which was quickly followed by a phone call to "come get him."

I am sure you love your father and take good care of him. But to equate "taking care" with perfection is to deny your humanness. As the old saying goes, "Only God is Perfect."

Your arrogant and rigid statement is not surprising, as you appear to be an unhappy, insecure, and mean-spirited person who finds it impossible to ever admit making a mistake. My advice: seek professional help. Going through life unhappy is no fun, and unhappy campers are no fun to be around.

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

I'm very happy. I have a great life. Great family. Great job. Travel a lot. I've accomplished what I want out of life. Lots of great friends and great times. There's many of us to take care of my father and we also have hired help to assist us. He's never alone, not for a minute. We care too much about our family members to risk anything happening to him.

Funny how someone can't comment on here without some jerk try to tell them how they need help. Maybe you need the help. I'm doing awesome and just laughing at you saps.

he_who_knows_all 4 years, 6 months ago

Reread my comment xr. Mine was meant as a tongue in cheek joke. nothing more. Which I hope is how Chelsea took it.

jeffds01 4 years, 6 months ago

keep up the good work chelsea, love the blog...

P.S. gatekeeper - the comments are what make it a blog.....

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

And I'm terrible because I comment on a blog that's basically a bored person that has to report everybodies business. Make it important and list the important things that come across the scanner, not every little thing.

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

I have nothing to hide. Don't understand why someone has to be in everyone's business. That's a nosey person.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

why are you so in my business then? You are kind of being a hypocrit, dontcha think?

wendywilcox 4 years, 6 months ago

you sure seem to be in her business...telling her how to raise her kid and how to write her blog....and if you have nothing to hide, then why are you an "anonymous" user. You are quite the bundle of contradictions, my dear. You would think a so-called "teacher" would be smarter than that.

Bob Forer 4 years, 6 months ago

She's certainly not a "retired teacher." Try unmitigated/unreconstituted liar. I doubt anyone would have ever let her in a classroom with her 7th grade writing skills--dangling prepositions, subject/verb incongruence, incomplete sentences, run on sentences, etc.

Read some of her other posts on other stories. She claims to be retired teacher here, but in other posts claims to have a job. And she claims to have an uncle who is a cop. Hmm, kinda fishy. Her dad is obviously elderly if he is afflicted with AD. And, by definition, her uncle would be either her father's brother or mother's brother. And to my knowledge, there are very few 75 years old cops out there. Most retire after 20 years, in their mid-to-late forties or early fifties.

Gatekeeper's inability to distinguish fact from fantasy is indicative of a pervasive personality disorder, perhaps Borderline or Histrionic. The prognosis for these types of disorders is very guarded, but sometimes professional guidance is helpful. You never know until you try.

I hope my comments are well-taken, Gatekeeper, and you seek help.

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

Oh yeah, cuz we all need to know that someone left their dog out in the cold and that Chesea doesn't think it should be on the scanner cuz dogs have fur.

Whatever people.

gatekeeper 4 years, 6 months ago

Oh yeah, cuz we all need to know that someone left their dog out in the cold and that Chesea doesn't think it should be on the scanner cuz dogs have fur.

Joan Kelly 4 years, 6 months ago

gatekeeper, looks like you waste an awful lot of time on here saying bad things about people... just saying! I guess you must not have any responsibilities in your life.

On a side note, one thing I was thinking about with the police scanner website that worried me was that you list the address of where the police are going. For example in one case, you said the police were going to check out someone who had information on a crime. My concern is for the safety of the tip giver... now you've told the public they're a "snitch." Couldn't that be dangerous for them?

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

I have, in fact, thought a lot about that. In those cases I put the block of the street, or leave out the apartment number. Do you think that's ok? I really don't want anyone to be endangered.

LoveThsLife 4 years, 6 months ago

I would just leave out any identifying information period. Even with the block of the street or the apartment building someone could possibly figure out who it is.

I'll answer your 4 paragraphs, gate keeper:

Not all these come from 1 person. They come into a an administrated site and are auto-posted by people with the correct clearance. It looks like "chelsea" is at the helm all day and night, but she's not. It's more than one person. And, anyone in their right mind would go check out the scanner when you hear "ARMED ROBBERY". Actually, everyone at the party got quiet, and listened to the report coming across together AS A FAMILY, for a few min. We blogged it, and went back to cake and ice cream. I was there. It takes :30 sec to blog something like this. Get your nose out of people's personal business.

You expect Police, and Amber Alert services to be adequate protection? Go check out the stats on child abduction, or any other heinous crime. It's a small world "gatekeeper". You are saying there shouldn't be another service that reports criminal activity in certain areas? We have Lawyers and Realtors on this site every day. Actually, we average 1500 hits per day. I don't see 1500 people per day asking you for your opinion.

There was a missing person's alert that day. It was called in between 4:30-5 am. Because of our police scanner, and other info we were able to call police and tell them the exact location of the person. Do you know how long it takes to freeze to death in Conditions like this? Why don't you go outside for a while and think about it, gatekeeper. What if the missing persons report went on for 2-3 hours, until then they found a BODY? Also, no one cares how you treat your father. Any one who has to even mention something like that in the first place is suspect to me. And what do you mean "the news" you hear quite frequently? Like the next day? Where are you getting "the news"? That is a completely ignorant comment. You hear the news you are "allowed" to hear. Hours later at best. Sometimes 24 hours later for a missing person.

Yes we do need to know if a dog catcher caught a dog. Sometimes these things can be really important. Go online and look at incidents of maulings from dogs. What if your child was bit walking home from school by an aggressive dog, as I was when I was 8. Then animal control called in APB on description of the animal. Let's now suppose hours go by and the dog winds up digging in trash cans looking for food. Then someone is horribly mauled while they walk out the back door to take the trash out. ANIMAL CONTROL DOES NOT POST STUFF LIKE THIS ONLINE. HOW ELSE WOULD ANYONE KNOW? What if someone called in to animal control the description of the dog, from the blog site. What might seem silly, to you, to report might be critical somewhere else. Gate keeper, there are other people out there in the world besides you. At least 1500 of them. Go back to your deluded sheltered life.

I expect a response from you. One with substance.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

So you DO keep reading the blog, huh? I thought you didn't like it? heehee.

kubsdrvr 4 years, 6 months ago

I know I'm late to the party, but just heard police sirens and checked the blog, and saw a link to this. I've been following the blog for a couple weeks now. Love it. I don't have a TV and don't listen to the radio unless in a car. I read the newspaper almost everyday and often notice stories that were on the scanner blog the night before. It is nice to know the areas to avoid. i.e. wrecks on Iowa, or possible bomb at motel on 6th st. just blocks from my house. Keep up the good work Chelsea and other bloggers. Remember nothing good happens on Redbud, and don't burn the popcorn. :)

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Awesome!!! And I am kind of thinking that those kids in the residence hall's might be burning popcorn to cover the smell of the weed. Genius, if you ask me!

xr650rsource 4 years, 6 months ago

There is a complaint every single day on Redbud Lane. In fact, there could be on average 2-3 per day. I think it gets my vote for the worst neighborhood in town.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

I hear the hookers and thugs refer to the area as "the Bud".

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

We are looking for people to monitor the scanner and blog about it. All of this can be done with earphones, a computer, and a good internet connection. We will give you admin. access to the Police scanner blog. We will train you on 10 codes, and the rest of the signals. It's easy.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Funny, it seems like there is only 1 or 2 people who dislike this blog. I have read the comments these people post on other articles and, all I've got to say is WOW! Obviously miserable, miserable people. And one of them claims to be a retired techer!!! Bahahahahaha!!!!!!! Yeah, right is all I've got to say about that. I guess if some people have to put others down to feel better, then I am glad to help. Obviously they are reading my blog though, too bad they have to do it in a locked room with noone watching. Just read it, be yourself, and maybe you will get a friend or two. Just sayin'.. ;) Have a great day, I've got a yard full of leaves to rake.

Amy Heeter 4 years, 6 months ago

OK kids stop throwing sand in each others faces.

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

Make me!!! She started it!!!!! I'm telling!!!!! LOL.

RoeDapple 4 years, 6 months ago

OMG! Mario Little was arrested! Have you heard it on the scanner? Someone should blog about it! Maybe one of those miserable, miserable people who you THINK comes back to read your blog.

After the first or second of your amazing(ly boring) blogs this miserable, miserable poster no longer reads them. This one cheered me up some though after reading the comments. But keep it up, you will have a few defenders, at least for a while. The stripper blogs finally fizzled out when most of us figured out she thrived on attention, good or bad. This reminds me a lot of her tras . . . .

Chelsea Kapfer 4 years, 6 months ago

I love being able to invoke this much emotion in you. Thanks for reading both blogs, and I appreciate your comments; good or bad. Any publicity is good publicity, just ask Charlie Sheen!

xr650rsource 4 years, 6 months ago

Those miserable people are exceeding 3000 per day. I bet they are not harassing people on blog sites like you do. Is this your new hobby? We tracked you on ljworld blog, and you have posted over 6, 500 remarks on other peoples blogs, mostly insults, and mindless gibberish. Go bother someone else. No one cares what you think...... If you do not have anything intelligent to say, keep it to yourself. If you can.....

RoeDapple 4 years, 6 months ago

You all have a nice day now, ya hear!
