December 7th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire Medical wrap up
First responders were kept very busy this morning in Lawrence.
At 1:51 Police were called to the 1200 block of Indiana Street following reports of a large disturbance. At least two callers reported as many as 10 subjects fighting in the area. Lawrence and KU Police arrived in the area and broke up several people who were fighting. No injuries or arrests were reported. There were at least 10 units assigned to this call.
At 1:56 Police and Fire Medical crews were called to 916 Indian Street for a report of a possible structure fire. A caller reported a heater was on fire next to the building. Fire crews arrived and reported a small fire near the side of the building. The fire was quickly extinguished.
Lawrence Police and Fire Medical crews were sent to an address in the 1200 block of Ohio Street at 2:07 a.m.. The incident was dispatched as a "Medical Emergency" however, after units arrived on scene a LifeStar helicopter was requested to respond to Memorial Stadium to transport a trauma patient. At 2:58 a.m., LifeStar went in route from Memorial Stadium to the University of Kansas Medical Center. Radio traffic indicated that the injured person is a college aged male with critical injuries. He was reportedly intoxicated and said to have fallen from a third floor balcony. No other information was immediately available regarding the circumstances surrounding this incident. Fire Medical crews were dispatched on a possible structure fire at 1809 W. 25th Street at 2:26 a.m.. A caller reported something on fire in the stairwell of the building. Police responded to the area of the call and quickly established a perimeter in the area. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before any significant damage was done. No injuries were reported. Radio traffic indicated that Police believed the fire to be related to the other suspicious fires in the same area. Investigators from both the Fire Medical Department and Police Department remained on that scene until approximately 4 a.m.. At 3:44 a.m., Police were dispatched on a report of a possible prowler in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road. Thinking this might possibly be related to the suspicious fires, Police quickly responded to the area. It did not sound as though Police were able to locate anyone suspicious in that area.
Police were called to an address in the 1800 block of Almira Avenue for a reported domestic disturbance just after 4:30. Officers eventually arrested two people, a man and a woman, involved in the incident. Both now face a charges of Criminal Damage to Property. The female also faces a charge of Domestic Battery. No injuries were reported.
At 7:20, a Kansas Turnpike Authority Trooper requested a Medic unit respond on an injury accident in the roundabout at the west gate entrance to the turnpike. This is the toll booth on McDonald Drive. Medics reported one vehicle involved with minor damage and treated one person for some minor injuries. No one was transported by Medics from the scene.
