Shortly before 2:30, Douglas County Deputies and Fire Medical crews were dispatched to the 2000 block of E 1400 Road, about one half of a mile north of Midland Junction on a report of an accident. The caller was a passerby who only reported a vehicle off of the roadway into a culvert. Deputies arrived to find a vehicle with one occupant pinned inside. Medics arrived and requested a LifeStar helicopter respond to the scene. After about 30 minutes of work, the driver was extricated. Following the extrication the driver was said to have gone into cardiac arrest. The injured driver was transported by medics to Lawrence Memorial Hospital at 3:38, with the assistance of LifeStar's medics on board the ambulance. As of this report there are no updates available on the drivers status. The accident remains under investigation and no other details have been released. Firefighters responded on a dumpster fire in the 2500 block of Redbud Lane at 2:59. Police reported that the Fire Department was investigating the fire as an arson. No suspect information was available.

Lawrence Police responded on six disturbances and conducted three vehicle stops this morning between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m..

Kansas Highway Patrol Troopers recorded a DWI related arrest on westbound Interstate 70 near milepost 200.

Another very calm morning for Police and Fire Medical in Douglas County.

Lawrence Police were called out on one disturbance this morning, just after 2 a.m.. That disturbance was reported to be domestic related. No injuries or arrests were reported.

Officers also conducted several vehicle stops, again no arrests were reported.

At 4:58, Police were dispatched to the 200 block of McDonald Drive on a report of suspicious activity or possible auto burglaries. A caller reported a subject wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans trying to get into a vehicle. No arrests were reported.

At 6:53, Police and Fire Medical were called to the 2800 block of Iowa Street for a possible structure fire. A caller reported a fire in the area of the Laird Noller Hyundai. Police initially dispatched it as a car fire near a building and Fire Medical was dispatched on a possible structure fire. After further questioning by dispatchers, the caller said it was a "pit fire" near the northeast corner of the Laird Noller building. Police arrived to find a subject nearby starting a barbecue grill. Firefighters also checked the area and were unable to locate anything other than the grill. Fire Medical made contact with the people near the grill, who reported having no problems. All units were clear of the call, with nothing found, by 7:05.

None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

A fairly calm morning in Douglas County.

Police in Lawrence conducted four vehicle stops and responded on three disturbances.

One of those disturbances, said to be domestic, occurred around 4:30 this morning. Two people were arrested at that address, one on an outstanding Failure to Appear warrant and the other faces charges of Battery and Disorderly Conduct.

None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

Lawrence Police conducted at least 12 vehicle stops this morning, most coming after 7 a.m.. Police responded on one report of a disturbance at 4:28, no injuries were reported.

Officers investigate two non-injury accidents this morning. The first in the 1300 block of W 6th Street at 7:12 and the second in the 700 block of Vermont at 7:55 a.m..

At 7:40, Police were called to an address in the 2700 block of Meadow Place for the theft of pink flamingos from the yard. Two officers responded and received information on a possible suspect from the victim.

Around 1:27 a.m., Lawrence Police and Fire/Medical were called to an address in the 1600 block of Tennessee Street on reports of a person struck by a vehicle. Police arrived on scene quickly and reported a male with critical injuries. Medics arrived on scene and almost immediately requested that dispatchers check on the availability of a LifeStar Helicopter and of the University of Kansas Medical Center to accept a critical trauma. LifeStar was unable to fly due to weather in the area, and KUMC reported they were able to accept the patient. The man was transported by ambulance to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

A driver involved in the accident was reported to be detained by Police and transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for a blood draw. As of this report, it is unclear if that driver has received any citations or faces any charges. There is also no update on the victim's status available. At 2:07 a.m., Police were called to the area of the East Hills Business Park on a report of a subject firing a gun from a vehicle. As officers were responding on the call, dispatchers learned that the incident occurred approximately 30 minutes before anyone had call 911 to report it. The caller only provided dispatchers with a very vague description of the vehicle involved. No injuries or damage were reported.

Fire/Medical was dispatched on a fire alarm at Ellsworth Hall on the University of Kansas campus shortly before 4:30 a.m.. Dispatchers reported receiving alarms from two separate rooms. KUPD located burnt macaroni and cheese in one of the rooms and firefighters confirmed that was the source of the alarm. Many residents were evacuated from the building while firefighters were on scene. Everyone was allowed back into the building a short time later.

A little bit more activity this morning in Lawrence.

Police conducted five vehicle stops and cited at least seven parking violations. One of the vehicle stops reportedly involved an arrest for a subject driving without a valid driver's license.

Only one disturbance this morning, nothing that resulted in any arrests or serious injuries.

Officers responded on a report of a subject being chased by a "vicious" dog in the 2200 block of Lake Pointe Drive, just before 6:30 a.m.. The subject that was being chased was able to get into an apartment and away from the dog just prior to Police arriving on scene. Officers did not report any injuries to the subject and medics were not requested to the scene.

Not too far outside of Douglas County, firefighters just outside of Tonganoxie responded on a report of a house fire just before 2 a.m.. A man and his daughter reportedly awoke to a barking dog, to find a fire in the basement of the home at 20356 Parallel Road. Both people were able to escape from the house and call for help from a neighbors home. Firefighters arrived to find flames visible through windows. Initial reports indicate that the fire was believed to have been sparked by an electrical issue in the home's basement. The State Fire Marshal's office is on scene investigating this morning.

Back in Lawrence, Police investigated a couple nuisance complaints, disturbances and conducted several vehicle stops.

Officers made three arrests this morning for trespassing. The first two occurred around 2:15 a.m. in the 2500 block of W 31st Street. The third arrest occurred around 6:45 a.m. after an unknown man walked into an apartment in the 1300 block of W 24th Street. The man reportedly helped himself to one of the bedrooms and laid in the bed. He was quickly arrested. It was not immediately clear if the door was left open, unlocked or why it was so easy for the man to simply walk in.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m., Police and Fire/Medical responded on a report of a structure fire in the 5000 block of Clinton Parkway. The caller told emergency dispatchers that there was a smoke odor and the building's fire alarm was sounding. Firefighters arrived to report nothing showing from the exterior of the building. Upon further investigation the source of the odor was determined to be burning food. Medics evaluated one person on the scene, inside the apartment where the burning food was found. No one was reported to have been transported by medics from the scene.

Just before 2:30 a.m., Lawrence Police responded to both of the Wal-Mart stores in town after both reported receiving threats. There were not many details aired over the radios, other than to say that the caller was a male in both phone calls. Dispatchers also indicated that one of the callers was reported to possibly be "mental". There was no indication as to whether or not it was the same caller to both stores, The first call to the Wal-Mart store at 550 Convressional Drive was dispatched to officers at 2:27 a.m.. The second call was dispatched at 2:29 a.m., to the Wal-Mart store at 3300 Iowa Street. It did not sound as though any special precautions were taken at either location. As of this report, no other details were available. Check back with the Lawrence Journal-World later this morning for additional information, should there be anything to report.

Elsewhere this morning, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the Wal-Mart at 5000 10th Avenue also received a telephone threat just before 4 a.m.. Officers quickly responded and were able to report the scene "clear" as of 4:30 a.m.. Again, no further details were immediately available.

Back in Lawrence, Police also responded on three reported disturbances, and two fireworks complaints. No serious injuries were reported.

At 5:20 a.m., Officers were called to the area of W 28th Street and Kasold Drive on reports of a Prowler. The caller only reported that it was believe a subject was possibly in the backyard, "looking into windows." There were no reports of any damage or of anything taken from the property.

Lawrence Police conducted a vehicle stop near the intersection of Valley Lane and University Drive just before 2 a.m.. The driver was suspected to be OUI. While attempting to administer field sobriety tests, the male driver chose to become uncooperative. The officer called for assistance, within about a minute, a total of eight officers were on the scene. The driver was eventually confirmed to be intoxicated and was arrested. He faces charges of OUI 2nd offense, Interference with the Duties of an Officer and Driving While Suspended/Revoked. No injuries were reported.

At just about the same time that all of that was unfolding in Lawrence, Douglas County Deputies were on another vehicle stop near mile marker 397 on US Highway 24/40. Again the driver was arrested for DWI.

Officers responded on a disturbance in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street at 2:11 a.m.. At least four officers were on the scene.

Lawrence Police investigated a non-injury accident in the 1100 block of Tennessee Street, just after 2:20 a.m.. A vehicle was reported to have struck a traffic signal pole and then left the scene in an unknown direction. As of this report, it is not believed that Police have caught up with the driver or the vehicle involved.

At 2:24 a.m., another disturbance was reported in the 800 block of Massachusetts Street and again an officer called for assistance. At least five officers responded to the scene to assist. One person was eventually taken into custody on charges of Domestic Battery.

2:35 a.m., Officers responded on a report of stolen cigarettes from a business in the 900 block of Iowa Street. It did not sound like Police knew who they were looking for, other than the description given by an employee. No arrests have been reported currently.
