December 2nd Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire Medical wrap up
Lawrence Police were kept busy this morning responding on reports of explosions and gunshots. The first report was at 3 a.m., with a caller in the 1100 block of Mississippi Street reporting what she believed to have been a single gunshot in the area of Memorial Stadium. LPD and KUPD both checked the area, and did not report locating anything suspicious in the area. The KUPD officer believed that the sound was a "metal lid being slammed" somewhere nearby.
At 3:02 Lawrence officers were called to an address in the 1100 block of West Hills Terrace for an intoxicated subject who had helped himself into an address. A male resident at the address "escorted" the intoxicated man outside. The man then tried a different door and Police were called. Police arrived and eventually sent the man on his way with a trespassing warning.
At 3:56 Police were called to check on a report of fireworks in the area of W. 19th Street and Stewart Avenue.
Police responded on multiple reports of an explosion heard in the area of 2300 W 26th Street at 4:06 a.m.. Fire Medical crews were dispatched to the area on a possible structure fire at the same time. Police determined that a "homemade explosive device was detonated" in the parking lot. There were no reports of any damage to vehicles or structures in the area.
Officers were called back to the area of the 2000 block of Stewart Avenue at 4:12 and another report of the same thing in the 800 block of Missouri Street at 4:19.
At 4:45 a.m., Police were called to investigate a trespassing complaint in the 1800 block of Haskell Avenue. One person was arrested and now faces a Criminal Trespass charge.
