Firefighters from at least three area departments were called to respond on a report of a structure fire in Eudora.

The call was dispatched around 11:40 p.m. at 2218 Quail Court. The address is on the south side of Kansas Highway 10, just east of Eudora High School.

Law Enforcement arrived on the scene to report the east side of the structure was heavily involved in fire. Fire crews arrived to report heavy flames visible from the south and east sides of the two story home.

The residents of the home told emergency crews that everyone was out of the home safely.

As of 12:10 a.m., firefighters report the roof of the home is nearly fully engulfed. Crews remain inside the home battling the flames from the second story.

Just before 1 a.m., a Fire Safety Officer reported a partial roof collapse. Incident command made radio contact with each firefighter team on the inside of the structure. All crews were clear of the collapse area and continue to put water on the fire.

The fire was reported to be "under control" at 1:07 a.m.. Dispatchers report that crews were on scene for one hour 20 minutes before the fire was brought under control.

Neighbors on one side of the home were evacuated as a precaution. No injuries were reported.

This morning's numbers are just a little bit different from yesterday morning. Lawrence police conducted 10 vehicle stops between midnight and 5 a.m.. Only two DWI related arrests this morning, one from KUPD and one from LPD, and both of those also include charges for the driver refusing to be tested.

Here is a look at some of the numbers from Lawrence Police this morning;

• 11 Disturbances
• 2 Noise complaints
• 2 Non-injury accidents
• 1 Trespassing complaint
• 1 Strong-arm robbery

At 12:20 this morning, Eudora Police and a Douglas County deputy were called to check for an erratic driver eastbound on K-10 approaching Eudora. A 911 caller was following the vehicle and reported the driver was all over the roadway and possibly left the roadway entirely at one point. The caller followed the vehicle to the Church Street exit and then north. Eudora Police caught up with the driver at the Kwik Shop. No arrests were recorded related to the incident.

Just after 12:40 a.m., Lawrence police were called to an address in the 600 block of Michigan Street on a domestic disturbance. A man was eventually arrested and faces charges of criminal damage to property and escape from custody. While he was being transported to the County Jail apparently he was trying to open the door of the patrol car that was transporting him. It was not clear if he slipped his cuffs completely, was able to get his hand in front of him or what exactly prompted the escape charge. The officer driving the car did call for assistance at K-10 and Franklin, about a block from the jail for help detaining the subject again.

At 1:15 a.m., Police were called to an address in the 2400 block of Ousdahl Road for a possible burglary in progress. The resident reported an unknown male in his 20's opened the front screen door of the home and then tried to open the main door. After finding the front door was locked, the man then made his way to the resident's vehicle parked nearby and tried to open the doors. Police arrived and the man was arrested for criminal trespassing and an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in municipal court.

Officers were called to the intersection of 9th and Massachusetts Street at 2:45 a.m. following reports of a fight in progress, and one subject with a bloody nose. Medics were also dispatched to stage in the area. After breaking up the fight, medics treated one person for what were described as minor injuries.

A Mil-Spec security officer called Lawrence Police at 2:50 a.m., to the 1000 block of W 23rd Street after witnessing a non-injury accident. Apparently Mil-Spec told dispatchers that they were detaining the driver after she attempted to flee from the scene of a collision with a parked vehicle. LPD arrived and eventually arrested the driver. She now faces charges her second DWI, in addition to refusing a test and no proof of liability insurance.

At 4:55 a.m., Lawrence Police were called to the Dillon's at 1015 W. 23rd Street following the strong-arm theft of nine cartons of cigarettes. The suspect, described as a heavy set black female, reportedly shoved an employee to get to the cigarettes and then fled in a red Buick passenger car. According to scanner traffic, it appeared that officers have had similar incidents with a suspect vehicle matching this description. It was unclear if the actual suspect description matched or just the vehicle.

Law Enforcement in Douglas County was on high alert following two Topeka Police Officers being shot and killed in the line of duty last night. The suspect was involved in a six hour standoff with local, state and federal law enforcement in Topeka. The standoff came to an end after tactical teams fired tear gas into the structure and shots were exchanged. Medics transported the suspect away from the scene in very critical condition. Around 3 a.m., a Johnson County Sheriff's Deputy spotted a sport utility vehicle at a high rate of speed, driving into oncoming traffic on Kansas Highway 10. The SUV was first seen around De Soto, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. The Deputy tailed the vehicle from the correct side of the highway and reported speeds near 100 miles per hour. Douglas County Deputies attempted to throw spike strips in front of the suspects vehicle. The driver managed to avoid the spike strips and came to a stop on his own near milepost 10. Deputies from both agencies conducted a felony car stop and took the driver into custody. Eudora Township Fire and LDCFM medics were called to the scene for some minor lacerations that the subject had sustained in his arrest. Eudora Township canceled the medic unit after learning that the suspect was refusing treatment. The suspect was taken into custody by Johnson County Deputies.

Lawrence Officers responded on a report of suspicious activity in the 1000 block of W. 24th Street shortly after 4 a.m.. Officers contacted a woman in the area. That woman was eventually taken into custody for an outstanding warrant. She faces additional charges for Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Eudora Police reported locating an open window at Eudora United Methodist Church, 2084 N 1300 Road around 2:20 this morning. Several Douglas County Deputies assisted with surrounding the building and then clearing the interior. There were no reports of any arrests or damage. It is unclear whether or not anyone entered the building through the open window. Law Enforcement remained at that scene until nearly 3:30.

Lawrence Police were called to an address in the 1200 block of Summit Street at 4:09 for a reported physical disturbance between two females. Officers arrived and broke up the fight. One of the women was arrested and faces a Battery charge. The other woman was treated for some minor injuries at the scene, she was not transported by Medics.

Officers in Lawrence also responded on two incidents involving children this morning. The first was reported as officers were leaving the scene on of the Summit Street incident. The child was said to be "in need of care" according to radio traffic. Four officers were involved in the call which was in the 1300 block of Summit Street.

The second child related call was in the 2000 block of Heatherwood Drive at 7:06 this morning for a child "out of control". From radio traffic it sounded like the juvenile was trying to avoid going to school this morning. No other details were available.

Around 7:50 this morning, fire crews were called to the 2200 block of W 26th Street for a report of a kitchen fire inside a second floor apartment. Arriving fire crews reported visible smoke and flames from the building. Firefighters initially attacked the fire from inside the building and then briefly were ordered outside and battled defensively. The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes. One occupant was treated by medics at the scene, those injuries were not said to be serious and the person was not transported from the scene. At 1:52, Lawrence Police were called to the area of W 6th Street and George Williams Way after a caller reported he had rolled his SUV. That caller told emergency dispatchers that he was not injured but, his SUV was leaking something, possibly gasoline. Several officers and one fire unit responded to the area where they located the man and his SUV in a parking lot in the 5700 block of W 6th Street. The fire crew reported that the SUV was on its top. After administering field sobriety tests, officers determined that the man was intoxicated and he was arrested on a OUI charge.

At 3:40, Police were called to the 1600 block of Tennessee Street on a report of fireworks in the area. It was unclear if officers caught up with those responsible for the fireworks show or not.

Around 4:30, Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to the area of Tee Pee Junction to check for an erratic driver. A caller to 911 reported that an oncoming vehicle had swerved into his lane and forced him off of the roadway. That caller then turned around and followed that vehicle while calling 911. The vehicle drove into North Lawrence where LPD was able to catch up with both the suspect and victim. As of this report, it does not appear anyone has been arrested related to the incident. No injuries were reported.

At 5:04, a Police officer reported finding smoke coming from the playground wood chips at Pickney School, 810 W 6th Street. The officer requested one fire unit to respond to extinguish the "glowing embers". Other than some burnt wood chips, no damage was reported to the playground equipment.

Law Enforcement throughout the county recorded five OUI/DWI related arrests. One of the vehicle stops came after a Lawrence officer reported a vehicle traveling in excess of 80 miles per hour, eastbound on 23rd Street and continued eastbound onto K-10. A short time later, a Eudora officer spotted the same vehicle traveling in excess of 104 miles per hour. The Eudora officer was able to catch up with and stop the vehicle. That driver was arrested and faces charges of OUI, Reckless Driving, and No Insurance.

For those looking that have not already seen the story, Police and Fire Medical were called to the Berkeley Flats apartments in the 1100 block of Mississippi Street at 10:14 p.m... The building that contains 1100 and 1104 Mississippi Street, was seriously damaged, with parts of the third floor said to be structurally compromised. A total of 14 residents were displaced and no injuries were reported. Investigators were back at the scene shortly after sunrise this morning working to determine the cause of the fire. Once the fire was under control, things were pretty calm in the county.

Shortly before 2:30, Police conducted a vehicle stop in the 4400 block of Adam Avenue. After administering field sobriety tests, the driver was determined to be intoxicated and was arrested.

At 4:34, Eudora Police and Firefighters were dispatched to the area of E 12th Street and Tallgrass Drive for what the caller reported to be a "plume of smoke" in the area. Firefighters arrived to report only a haze in the area. After making contact with the caller, to make sure they were all looking at the same thing, all units were allowed to clear from the call with nothing found.

Otherwise this morning was pretty calm in Lawrence. Officers did respond on one noise complaint around 5 a.m..

Eudora Police arrested a man for the burglary of a vehicle and an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

Lawrence Police reported making two arrests just after midnight following the attempted robbery of two people in a parking lot at The Reserve apartment complex, in the 2500 block of W 31st Street. Police caught up with the alleged suspects, both of Topeka, near downtown Lawrence. Both men face charges of Aggravated Robbery. One of the men also faces an Aggravated Assault charge, after he pistol whipped one of the victims. More on this story can be found here from the Lawrence Journal-World.

Police received a report of an aggravated burglary in progress at an address in the 1500 block of 27th Street. The caller reported they believed that someone had made entry into the house through a window. After speaking further with dispatchers, the caller determined that the alleged intruder was a family member. Most officers attached to the call, returned to service once they learned it was a family member. The call was downgraded to a trespassing and no arrests were reported.

Also this morning, Eudora Police were investigating several self storage unit burglaries in the 500 block of E 15th Street. There was not an exact number of units given over the radio. However, the officer was out at that scene for nearly an hour.

Lawrence Police were called to the 900 block of Louisiana at 2:43 after dispatchers received reports of fireworks or possibly gunshots in the area. One caller reported five "shots", a pause and then seven to eight more "shots". Another caller believed the sounds to be fireworks. Officers checked the area and reported the sounds to only be fireworks.

Just before 3 a.m., Lawrence Fire/Medical and Police responded on a reported structure fire at 3009 Sagebrush Drive. The caller reported a fire in the kitchen of the home. Fire crews arrived to find nothing visible from the two story residence. Firefighters reported a "working fire" in the kitchen. The four residents of the home were all out safely before Fire/Medical arrived. The fire was knocked down within about 10 minutes of firefighters arriving on scene. No injuries were reported.

At 6:48 a.m., Eudora Police, Kansas Highway Patrol, and LDCFM responded on an injury accident on westbound Kansas Highway 10 near Eudora. Medics reported it appeared that one of the involved vehicles had rolled before it crashed into the ditch. One person needed assistance getting out of their vehicle. Emergency responders reported one serious injury and another minor injury. More on this accident can be found here from the Lawrence Journal-World.

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., several non-injury accidents were reported on Interstate 70, in both directions, near mile marker 221 and near Exit 224. No injuries were reported but, traffic was backing up through the area according to KTA Troopers.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Eudora Police reported a vehicle westbound on K-10 in excess of 80 miles per hour. Officers were able to catch up with that vehicle near the East Lawrence Business Park , around milepost 6. The driver was arrested for OUI and two outstanding warrants for Failure to appear in Municipal Court.

Officers in Lawrence conducted more than 13 vehicle stops this morning between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.. One of those vehicle stops resulted in an OUI related arrest.

Shortly before 5 a.m., Firefighters from several area townships, just west of Lawrence, responded on a house fire at 1565 E 800 Road. The address is about a mile southwest of Highway 40 and the South Lawrence Trafficway. A responding Medic unit reported from that intersection they could see flames. Once units arrived on the scene they reported that the second floor and roof were fully involved with fire. The two occupants of the house, along with their dog, safely escaped from the house before firefighters arrived. No injuries were reported.
