Two people critically injured in separate Douglas County accidents early Sunday

Douglas County Deputies are investigating two accidents this morning.

First accident

The first was reported shortly before 12:30 Sunday morning near the intersection of North 950 Road and East 850 Road, south of Clinton Lake.

Emergency crews arrived on the scene to report one vehicle, on its side and in the ditch. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle.

Medics reported the driver's injuries to be critical. A LifeStar Helicopter transported the injured driver to Stormont-Vail HealthCare center in Topeka.

Clarion Springs EMS, Clinton Township Fire, Wakarusa Township Fire and Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical all assisted on the scene and the helicopter landing zone.

Second accident

The second accident was initially reported as a possible grass fire just before 1:10 a.m.. It is unclear who reported the fire but, an arriving deputy found a vehicle down a steep embankment at the intersection of North 1550 Road and East 1625 Road in Wakarusa Township.

Medics reported the driver's injuries to be critical and requested a helicopter for transport. Dispatchers contacted LifeFlight Eagle and LifeNet, both were unavailable due to fog in the area east of Lawrence.

The injured driver, only identified as a 55-year-old man, was transported by a Lawrence Medic unit to the University of Kansas hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. His injuries are said to include a head laceration.

One critical, two detained following early morning shooting

Lawrence Police are investigating after a person was shot in the 2400 block of Cedarwood Avenue early Saturday.

The shooting was reported just before 3:10 a.m.. Officers located a male, approximately 40-years-old, with one gunshot wound to the chest.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical crews report the victim's injuries to be critical. The man was rushed to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by medics. An air-ambulance was not available due to the weather.

A witness told police that a person ran from the building eastbound and then northbound towards 23rd Street. That person was only described as a male wearing a black jacket.

At least two people have been detained for questioning. One ran from an officer in the area of 27th Street and Redbud Lane. He was apprehended at 4:25 a.m..

Suspect arrested after man is found shot in Lawrence park

Police are investigating after a man was found shot in a vehicle early Friday.

Lawrence Police were called to L.R. "Dad" Perry Park, 1200 Monterey Way, by the shooting victim just before 2:15 a.m.. Officers located the victim inside his vehicle in the north parking lot of the park, near the intersection of Harvard Road and Lakecrest Road.

Medics reported the victim's injuries to be critical and a LifeStar helicopter was dispatched to respond. Fire Medical personnel prepared a landing zone for the helicopter in the Hy-Vee parking lot, near W. 6th Street & Monterey Way.

The victim was alert and able to tell police the name of the man who allegedly shot him. Officers were familiar with alleged suspect and a vehicle he is known to drive. That vehicle was located at the Kwik Shop near 23rd & Harper just before 3 a.m.. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

No other details were immediately available.

Man rushed to KC area hospital after reported stabbing

Douglas County authorities are investigating after a man was stabbed late Thursday.

At 11:35 p.m., Eudora Police and Fire Medical crews were called to the Grandview Mobile Home Park, 510 E. 10th Street in Eudora. There officers located a man with a chest laceration. He claimed that an ex-girlfriend had cut him inside her Lawrence home and he drove himself to Eudora.

Lawrence Police were sent to the Brookwood Mobile Home Park, 1908 E. 19th Street, where they were able to contact the alleged suspect.

Medics reported the victim's injury to be critical and he was rushed to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. The victim has only been described as a, 44-year-old, man with a laceration to the left side of his chest.

Police continue to investigate the incident and have transported the alleged suspect to the Investigations and Training Center for questioning.

No other details were immediately available.

Two men shot this morning in Lawrence

Lawrence Police continue to investigate after two Topeka men were shot early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to Club Magic, located at 804 W. 24th Street, at 3:41 a.m. after receiving 911 calls reporting 10 people fighting inside the business. One of the people involved in the fight was reportedly armed with a gun. Police responded and learned that a security guard had taken the firearm from the man. The man then left the business before police could arrive.

At 3:51 a.m., Lawrence Police were dispatched to the area 22nd and Alabama Streets following several reports of gunshots heard in the area. This intersection is about three blocks north of Club Magic. At least one caller reported hearing four or five gunshots and a female screaming.

As officers responded to check on the reports of gunshots, one officer's patrol vehicle was struck by a vehicle being driven by a shooting victim in the parking lot of the McDonald's, 901 W. 23rd Street, just across the parking lot from Club Magic. The officer requested medics respond and that the driver had been shot multiple times.

Other officers continued their response to the area where gunfire had been reported. A second shooting victim was found in the 800 block of Greever Terrace, which is about four blocks north of Club Magic. Both men were reportedly shot on Greever Terrace. Following the shooting, one of the victims drove a vehicle back towards Club Magic to look for help, his vehicle collided with a Lawrence Police Department patrol vehicle in the McDonald's parking lot.

Lawrence Medics reported the victim found at McDonald's to be a 27-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the arm, shoulder and "base of the neck". He was transported to Overland Park Regional Medical Center with life threatening injuries.

The shooting victim who was found on Greever Terrace was determined to be 33-year-old male with two gunshot wounds. His wounds were said to include on in the foot and a "through and through" to the lower abdomen. He was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas with life threatening injuries.

Fire Medical crews requested two helicopters to respond and transport the victims. Due to weather conditions, no medevac helicopters were able to respond. Both victims were transported by Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical ambulance units.

Lawrence Police say they are seeking several persons of interest in connection with the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lawrence Police at 785-832-7509 or Douglas County Crime Stoppers at 785-843-8477. Calls to Douglas County Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous. Tipsters with information that leads to an arrest are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.

Our reporting partners at the Lawrence Journal-World report that a 22-year-old Topeka man was arrested for displaying a firearm in the bar during the initial disturbance and interfering with the duties of police.

The Journal-World also reports that both victims are Topeka residents. The condition of the 27-year-old shooting victim was said to be in stable condition and improving as of Sunday afternoon. The 33-year-old victim was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital, who told the Journal-World that they do not provide information on victims of violent crimes.

Club magic has been the scene of at least two other disturbances involving guns just this year, according to the Journal-World.

The club has previously been called Taste Lounge, Bar and Grill. A 30-year-old, Lawrence man who was working as a bouncer at the club was shot in the parking lot in March 2012.

    Early morning car chase and Lawrence woman critically injured in overnight crash

    Lawrence Police were involved in a very short car chase around 2:15 this morning. The chase began southbound on Harper Street near E. 21st Terrace. The officer in pursuit reported that the driver signaled before he turned eastbound onto E. 23rd Street. The chase ended quickly when the driver pulled into his own driveway in the 1900 block of E. 23rd Street, with Police right behind him. Officers conducted a felony car stop and the man was taken into custody without further incident.

    Douglas County booking logs show the driver to be a 33-year-old, Lawrence man. He now faces charges for OUI, attempt to elude, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

    Also new this morning, the Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate after a 28-year-old Lawrence woman was struck by a vehicle on Interstate 435 near Kansas Highway 10 in Lenexa. More on this accident, including her name can be found on the Operation 100 News website.

    January 19th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire Medical wrap up

    Officers in Lawrence conducted 12 vehicle stops this morning. As of 5:45 this morning, none of those stops seem to have resulted in DUI/DWI/OUI related arrests. Police also responded on four noise complaints, and seven disturbances.

    Around 3 a.m. an Officer reported being flagged down by a subject who was reporting her vehicle had been stolen from the 800 block of W. 24th Street while she was at Club Magic. The vehicle was believed to have been last seen westbound on W. 23rd Street from the area.

    At 4:36 a.m., Police and Fire Medical crews were dispatched on a single vehicle accident in the 1000 block of N. 3rd Street. A vehicle reportedly left the roadway and struck a tree, nearly head on. The driver of the vehicle was said to be pinned "under the dash". Crews worked for about 15 minutes to free the man from the wreckage. The man's injuries were said to be critical. He was transported by an ambulance to Lawrence Municipal Airport where a LifeStar helicopter was standing by to transport to a Kansas City area trauma center. A passenger in the vehicle was able to walk away. The driver was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. It was unclear if the passenger was wearing a seat belt or not. Police continue to investigate.     Aside from the accident, no other serious injuries were reported with any of this morning's activity.
