January 19th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire Medical wrap up
Officers in Lawrence conducted 12 vehicle stops this morning. As of 5:45 this morning, none of those stops seem to have resulted in DUI/DWI/OUI related arrests. Police also responded on four noise complaints, and seven disturbances.
Around 3 a.m. an Officer reported being flagged down by a subject who was reporting her vehicle had been stolen from the 800 block of W. 24th Street while she was at Club Magic. The vehicle was believed to have been last seen westbound on W. 23rd Street from the area.
At 4:36 a.m., Police and Fire Medical crews were dispatched on a single vehicle accident in the 1000 block of N. 3rd Street. A vehicle reportedly left the roadway and struck a tree, nearly head on. The driver of the vehicle was said to be pinned "under the dash". Crews worked for about 15 minutes to free the man from the wreckage. The man's injuries were said to be critical. He was transported by an ambulance to Lawrence Municipal Airport where a LifeStar helicopter was standing by to transport to a Kansas City area trauma center. A passenger in the vehicle was able to walk away. The driver was reportedly not wearing a seat belt. It was unclear if the passenger was wearing a seat belt or not. Police continue to investigate. More information on this accident can be found here from Operation 100 News.
