A busy morning for Lawrence Firefighters and Police.

At 2:27 a.m., firefighters were dispatched on a dumpster fire in an alleyway near 13th and Vermont Streets. At 3:35 a.m., an additional fire crew was dispatched to a dumpster fire in an alley near 12th and Tennessee Streets, about three blocks from the first fire. Lawrence Police and at least one KUPD officer saturated the area looking for anyone on foot, suspecting arson was involved with the fires. Officers conducted two pedestrian checks, no arrests related to the fires were reported.

Firefighters were called on a third dumpster fire just before 6 a.m. at a business in the 3000 block of Iowa Street. Dispatchers reported receiving two calls about the fire. One of those callers reported that the dumpster was about four feet from the side of the building. The second caller reported that the building was evacuated and flames were reaching higher than the building's roof. A full alarm structure fire assignment was dispatched and arriving crews reported a "large dumpster fully involved." Those crews were able to very quickly determine that the fire had not extended to the building itself. The fire was knocked down and reported to be under control within 15 minutes. There were no reports of damage to the nearby building and no injuries were reported.

Police also responded on two non-injury accidents. The first was reported in the 2200 block of Yale Road at 2:50 a.m.. The second was reported in the 3000 block of Kasold Drive at 4:30 a.m.

Officers responded on a residential burglary in the neighborhood west of Monterey Way and Harvard Road. The caller reported that no one was home when the burglary occurred.

None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

Around 1:40 this morning, Police were called to the 2300 block of W 26th Street after a report of two males breaking windows of vehicles and stealing items from inside. Officers arrived about a minute after being dispatched. A few seconds later officers reported two males running through the parking lot. Both men were captured and taken into custody about two minutes later. It was not immediately clear how many vehicles were broken into and/or damaged in the incident.

One accident was reported this morning around 7:40 a.m., in the 200 block of N Iowa Street. Police arrived on scene of what was believed to be a non-injury accident, when asked if they would like Fire/Medical to respond, one of the involved requested a medic unit. Medics responded to the scene around 7:50 a.m., no serious injuries were reported.

Lawrence Police responded on one battery this morning. Officers also responded on a reported burglary and conducted three vehicle stops.

KUPD conducted a few vehicle stops of their own as well as several building checks.

None of this morning's activity was said to have resulted in any serious injuries.
