Firefighters evacuate sleeping man from his burning Baldwin City home
Several area fire departments have responded to a reported structure fire in Baldwin City this morning.
The call was dispatched as a possible structure fire at the intersection of 9th Street and High Street just before 1:35 Saturday morning. Responding firefighters reported flames visible on their approach. Medics arrived to confirm that the two story structure was fully involved.
Fire crews forced their way through a front door where they found a man sleeping on a couch. That man told firefighters that he was the only person at home. The man was checked out by medics at the scene and released.
Firefighters reported a partial collapse of the structure at 2:40 a.m.. At that time crews continued to battle the fire.
Incident command has requested the Red Cross be notified for one resident who was displaced. The Kansas State Fire Marshal Office has also been requested to respond to investigate the cause of the fire.
Baldwin City Fire is receiving assistance from Palmyra Township Fire, Wellsville Fire (Franklin County), and Willow Springs Township Fire. All mutual aid fire crews were released from the scene shortly after 4 a.m.. Baldwin City firefighters remained on the scene to watch for hot spots.
No injuries were reported.

November 16th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire Medical wrap up
At 2:11 this morning, Lawrence and KU Police checked the area of the intersection of 19th and Naismith Drive for at least two reports of a large group, 10-15 people, fighting. Officers arrived in the area and were able to locate a group of people walking through a parking lot near Naismith Hall. However, none of the people in that group were fighting and were not interested in reporting a previous fight. Needless to say, no injuries or arrests related to the incident.
Police and Fire Medical crews were called to the 900 block of Mississippi Street on reports of a single vehicle accident just before 2:40 a.m.. A medic unit arrived on the scene to report one vehicle was on its side in the middle of the roadway. The driver of the vehicle was still inside the car. The fire department had to help the male driver from the vehicle, he was not injured. After further investigation, Police arrested the driver. He was booked into the county jail on charges of No Insurance and OUI.
Police also responded on another minor injury accident about an hour later in the 600 block of Louisiana Street. Very few details were available regarding this accident. Fire Medical crews did not respond to this scene, as the people involved refused treatment.
At 7:10 this morning, dispatchers reported a possible injury accident on Highway 56 near mile marker 428, west of Baldwin City. Callers to 911 reported a school bus as being involved in the accident. Baldwin City Police and a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper arrived on the accident about three minutes later. The scene of the accident was said to be between E 1300 Road and E 1400 Road. All Fire and EMS units were allowed to disregard the call at 7:18, after it was confirmed that there were no injuries.
None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

September 21st Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up
At 1:54, Lawrence Police reported being involved in a foot chase with an alleged "instigator" in a battery near 12th and Tennessee Streets. Officers caught up with their suspect a few minutes later in the 1200 block of Louisiana Street. A medic unit was sent to the scene and transported a male, said to be in his early 20's, to LMH. His injuries were not said to be serious and were believed to have been related to the fight that the man himself was believed to have instigated. Those injures reportedly included several lacerations to the face and a sore jaw. The man was later booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges of Disorderly Conduct and Obstruction of the Legal Process.
Baldwin City Police responded on possible burglary at 1:59 this morning. The caller reported hearing someone turning an exterior doorknob. Police, along with a County Deputy, responded on the call and did not report locating anyone in the area. There were no reports of any damage or confirmed burglaries.
Lawrence Police responded on a report of a disturbance with weapons in the 500 block of W 14th Street. A caller reported a man armed with a knife was "making threats" in a parking lot. Officers reported locating a man in the parking lot however, no arrests were recorded related to the incident.
At 7:30, Lawrence Police were called to an address in the 1000 block of Maine Street after a caller reported seeing an unknown man climbing out of his roommate's parked van. The man was only described as appearing to be intoxicated and "bloody." Officers responded and found the man at the front door of the address. Medics were requested to the scene but, did not transport anyone from that scene. Police reported that the man was indeed intoxicated. No arrests have been recorded related to the call.

July 16th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up
Lawrence Police conducted two vehicle stops within minutes for 2 a.m.. Both stops resulted in OUI related arrests.
Around 2:30 a.m., Firefighters in the Baldwin City area responded back to the scene, 1500 block of N 300 Road, of an earlier grass/brush fire. A deputy checking on the scene reported that the fire had rekindled. Fire crews were on the scene for a little more than an hour extinguishing some hot spots. The fire was not reported to be endangering any structures. Information on the earlier fire can be found here from the Lawrence Journal-World.
Police in Lawrence responded on three disturbances, and received information on a non-injury accident in the 700 block of New Jersey.
None of this morning's activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.

June 22nd Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up
Lawrence Police conducted at least nine vehicle stops this morning. One of those stops resulted in an arrest for an OUI related offense. Another of the stops occurred after a brief vehicle pursuit ended in the 3100 block of Ousdahl Road. At 2:21, an officer reported a vehicle driving recklessly, after a brief pursuit the vehicle stopped. The driver of that vehicle was taken into custody and faces charges of Careless Driving, Attempt to Elude and Interference with the Duties of an Officer.
Shortly before 3:45 a.m., Douglas County Deputies were called to investigate a non-injury accident in the 1300 block of Highway, just west of Baldwin City. Deputies reported a pickup truck had crashed into a ditch and came to rest on top of a guard rail. The driver of the pickup truck was eventually arrested and faces a DWI charge.
It was unclear how the incident was related to the above crash but, Deputies requested an ambulance for a pregnant female who was possibly going into labor at the same scene. Medics along with Baldwin City Fire responded to the scene. Medics transported the woman, about two weeks shy of her due date, to LMH.
Back in Lawrence, Police were called out twice to the same intersection after construction cones were moved into lanes of traffic.
Officers were involved in a foot pursuit just after 7 a.m.. The Officer called out the chase at 7:05 with a black male suspect running northbound along Ousdahl Road from 24th Street. Officers were able to catch up with the male about two minutes later in the 1600 block of W 22nd Terrace. It sounded as though the man had numerous warrants for his arrest. As of this report he has not been booked into the County Jail.
Police also responded on a couple disturbances and cited numerous parking violations in Lawrence. None of this morning's activity was reported to have resulted in any serious injuries.
