July 14th Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Just before 1:50 a.m., Lawrence Police were called to a business in the 2500 block of west 31st Street for a report of a suspicious subject possibly attempting to steal items from in front of the business. Officers caught up with the subject just as he was attempting to leave the scene. Police attempted a vehicle stop, the male suspect failed to yield and led officers on a brief vehicle pursuit which ended in the 3300 block of Iowa Street. The suspect was arrested and has been booked into the Douglas County Jail facing charges of Fleeing/Elude a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, No Driver’s License and Theft of Property/Services.

A few minutes after the brief pursuit came to an end, Police were called to the 900 block of Massachusetts Street for a report of a hit and run accident. Police caught up with a vehicle matching the descriptions given by witnesses in the 900 block of Louisiana Street. The female driver of that vehicle was arrested on charges of Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident and OUI.

Around 2:30 a.m., Police were called to investigate a possible car vs pedestrian accident near 10th and Illinois Streets. Fire/Medical was also dispatched but then disregarded after the involved pedestrian said they did not want an ambulance response. Officers determined the incident to be a disturbance between the two subjects. As of this report, no arrests or other information was available.

Police in Lawrence conducted six vehicle stops, responded on seven disturbances and three medical emergencies.
