August 1st Early Morning Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

At 2:10 a.m., Lawrence police conducted a vehicle stop in the 1600 block of Tennessee Street. One subject was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and OUI. Officers conducted a total of four vehicle stops this morning.

Before 4 a.m., KUPD was called to check on a report of a water main break near the Spencer Art Museum, 1301 Mississippi Street. Officers reported the pavement was beginning to buckle in one spot. Mississippi Street was closed from near 11th Street south to near Dyche Hall. A representative from the Spence Art Museum responded to check for damage to the interior of the building. There was reported to be two inches of water on the floor of at least one room. It was not clear where in the building that room was or how severe any damage is. As of this report, part of Mississippi Street remains closed as crews work to repair the break. KUPD reports traffic is heavy near the Kansas Union.

None of this morning’s activity was reported to have involved any serious injuries.
