September 29th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

A pretty busy early morning in Douglas County today.

Police and Fire/Medical were called to the 100 block of Michigan on reports of a shooting around 2:15 a.m.. A caller advised Emergency Dispatchers that a subject had been shot in the head. That caller also reported that the suspect was still at the address but was no longer armed with the weapon. Police arrived quickly with Fire/Medical units staged just down the street. Police concluded that no one had been shot, Fire/Medical units were disregarded.

About an hour later, Lawrence Fire crews were called to the 1000 block of W 24th Street on reports of an audible fire alarm sounding. As a crew was responding to check that alarm, Emergency Dispatchers received an additional call. The caller advised that there was smoke coming out of a basement level apartment at the address of the fire alarm. The call was upgraded to a structure fire with additional units added to the call. Crews arrived to investigate and were quickly able to narrow down their search and declare the situation under control. One Fire unit remained on scene to investigate. No injuries were reported.

Just before 3:50 a.m. Emergency Dispatchers received multiple calls regarding a fully involved structure fire in the 1400 block of N 1900 Road, just north of Lawrence. One of the callers advised that the house was unoccupied, the residents were already evacuated. Fire crews arrived and confirmed that the house was fully involved. A county-wide tender response was requested. A total of four neighboring township’s fire departments responded with tender units to assist in supplying water. Fire crews were not able to make entry into the house, as the fire was simply to consumed by the fire to safely gain entry. The house is a total loss this morning. The Journal World was on scene and captured some great video and pictures of the fire scene. More on this story from the Journal World’s story.
