October 23rd Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

A little bit more activity than normal for Lawrence overnight.

Lawrence Police responded on the fairly routine activity of noise complaints, disturbances, vehicle stops and a few alarms. Police conducted extensive vehicle stops, at least three DUI related arrests were made. That does not include numbers from KHP’s saturation patrols.

Increased patrols from the Kansas Highway Patrol in town led to a brief car chase and then a foot chase near N 2nd Street and Lincoln Street. LPD responded to assist Troopers shortly before 2 a.m.. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody at the car and a male passenger fled on foot. Charges against the passenger only included the charge for fleeing the Police, LPD had other activity going on and the Highway Patrol thanked LPD for their assistance and let them get back to other matters in Lawrence. It was not clear if Troopers stuck around to apprehend the passenger or if they knew anything about him, other than the very vague description the driver provided originally.

At 3:15 a.m. Lawrence Police along with Lawrence Fire/Medical were called to the 1100 block of Louisiana on report of a male who “scaled” the side of an apartment building and then became stuck between a door and a wall. Apparently the man told Police that he had locked himself out of his apartment and was trying to get in through a window. Emergency Dispatchers upgraded the call to a High-Angle Rescue, adding additional units to the call. The first fire unit arrived on scene and made access to the man. That crew was able to help free the man and get him back to the ground safely. No injuries were reported.

None of the overnight activity, that I heard, resulted in any serious injuries.
