October 21st Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Lawrence Police cited at least 10 Alcohol violations overnight, most of which were in the Riverfront Plaza area.

The Occupy Lawrence campers are still out at South Park. It sounded like Police passed through the area a few times. I did not hear any activity that sounded like enforcement of the order to leave the park.

Police conducted a numerous vehicle stops, responded on several noise complaints and a few disturbances.

Fire crews were called out to the 4100 block of W 24th Place just after 5:30 a.m. for a report of a structure fire. One caller to Emergency Dispatchers advised that the building’s fire alarms were sounding and there was a smell of burning plastic. LPD arrived and confirmed that there was no smoke or fire showing but there were alarms sounding and a smell of burning plastic. When the Fire Department arrived they were quickly able to determine that the odor was cooking related and all other units were canceled. Two fire crews remained out at that scene to assist with resetting the alarm and ventilation of the odor.

None of the overnight activity, that I heard, resulted in any serious injuries.

The week long (weather permitting) construction project, near the roundabout at Harvard and Monterey Way continues today. Learn more about this project here.
