An early start last night. A water main break just east of the intersection of 23rd Street and Wakarusa Drive resulted in one of the eastbound lanes being blocked just before 9 p.m. Police cleared that scene just before 11 p.m.

A fairly routine night started after the water main break. Police responded on the routine every night calls for noise complaint and made multiple car stops. LPD responded on a non injury accident in the 800 block of Kentucky just before 11 p.m.

Just after 1 a.m. a Lawrence Police officer on routine patrols spotted a male attempting to jump a fence to access a closed business. The man saw the patrol car approaching and ran back to a waiting truck which then fled from the area at a high rate of speed. Police gave chase. Speeds were reported to have reached nearly 50 miles per hour near 21st Street and Louisiana Street. The driver of the truck was described as a white male in his mid-late 30’s. The truck’s passenger was described as a white male in his early-mid 20’s. The suspects led Police along a fast winding route to the east side of Lawrence. The driver went off-road and drove through a corn field in the 1500 block of North 1550 Road. On the north side of that corn field the truck’s driver crashed into a tree, disabling the vehicle. Police located the vehicle abandoned with the passengers side door standing open. Police searched the area for nearly 30 minutes. Last I heard, no suspects were in custody. No injuries were reported.

Other then that pursuit, it was a fairly normal night for Police and Fire/Medical. No serious injuries were reported with any activity in Douglas County overnight.
