Another stormy overnight that was not quite as active as the night before but still plenty of activity throughout Douglas County.

Again, like the night before, the night started off with a little rain and Police busy with the same call types that are dealt with almost every night of the week. Animal complaints, noise complaints, car stops and a few disturbances.

Around 1 a.m. Police were called to a non injury accident in the 1100 block of Tennessee Street. About 45 minutes later, emergency dispatchers received reports of a car and a pickup truck stalled in high water in the 500 block of north 2nd Street. Police and Fire/Medical units were dispatched to the area. Fire/Medical were sent anticipating that the vehicles may still be occupied. Police arrived and were unable to tell for sure if either of the vehicles were occupied. Fire/Medical arrived and quickly made their way closer to the vehicles and were able to confirm that there were no occupants inside.

Just as it was determined that the vehicles on north 2nd Street were unoccupied, Police along with Fire/Medical were being dispatched to the 1100 block of Haskell Avenue on reports of a vehicle that had driven into the water and again was possibly still occupied. Police arrived and they were able to quickly determine that the driver of the vehicle was able to exit and make their way to higher ground.

LDCFM had a much more active night then usual as well. Along with the two reported water rescues, fire crews were called to the 3000 block of west 7th Street on a shed fire. That fire was contained to a shed that was 15 to 20 feet away from the nearest residence and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Westar had a busy night as well. Lawrence Fire crews were called out to the 1000 block of Connecticut to check on a blown transformer. Nothing much that fire crews could do there other then further confirm what nearby residents already knew, the power was out due to the loss of the transformer. There was also a large outage in the area of 15th and Haskell just after 4 a.m. As of 4:30 a.m. Westar was reporting just under 3,600 customers in Douglas County without power. As of 6:45 a.m. this morning Westar is showing 444 customers still without power in the county.
