July 4th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

From about 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon until nearly 5 a.m. this morning, Lawrence Police responded on just shy of 40 fireworks complaints. For a time, around 9 p.m. last night, fireworks complaints were one right after another. A few were called in as sound of gunshots in the area. One of which, it sounded like the caller was nearly arguing with the call taker about whether the sound was of fireworks or gunshots. The caller was insisting what she heard was someone firing a gun. Like all of the rest, Police arrived and determined the sounds to be fireworks.

There were also a large number of disturbances, as there seems to be on most holidays. None of which resulted in any serious injuries.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. LPD and LDCFM were called to respond to the 2300 block of Iowa, in front of Presto, on reports of an injury accident. Police arrived on scene of the accident which was a car versus a tractor trailer. The driver of the car was believed to be intoxicated, according to witnesses on scene. The driver was treated for what were described as serious injuries and was transported to LMH by ambulance.
