July 23rd Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

The night started off as a pretty quiet one.

Early in the night, Lawrence Police responded on several small and domestic disturbances throughout the city, along with several noise complaints and conducting several car stops. At least three drivers were faced with field sobriety tests. At least one, that I heard, was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and taken to the Douglas County Jail.

Just after 2 a.m. Lawrence Police were called to respond to the intersection of 10th and Massachusetts Street. Emergency dispatchers received a single call about approximately 20 subjects who were physically fighting on the sidewalk near the intersection. Three Officers were just around the corner when the call came out and arrived at the intersection in under a minute from the time the call was dispatched. Those Officers advised that they were not locating anything that matched what the caller described. The caller stated that a subject who appeared injured had walked into a business in the area. That subject was never located by Police.

Around 4 a.m. Lawrence Police responded to the 2400 block of Winterbrook on reports of a carjacking. Officers arrived and contacted the reported victim who advised that they had been carjacked by two men, at least one of which was armed with a handgun. The suspects left in the victims Blue Cadillac. The victim believed the vehicle was last seen westbound on 24th Street. It was unclear if the victim knew one of the suspects or how it occurred but Police believe they know the name of one of the suspects involved. It sounded as though a victim was transported by LPD to the hospital.

Shortly before 4:30 a.m. LPD was called to check on a car accident near Centennial Park in the area of 6th and Iowa. Police arrived and found the accident. The driver advised they were uninjured initially. However, was requesting to be seen my Medics a short time later. Injuries were minor and I do not believe anyone was transported from the scene by ambulance.
