An active Friday night in Lawrence. Back to school and back to action.

Police in Lawrence started off with two non injury accidents around 10:15 p.m. The first was reported in the 2300 block of W 26th Street and the second just a few minutes later in the 800 block of Iowa Street.

Just before 11 p.m. KUPD received a report of a group of subjects who were “climbing” on the south side of Anschutz Library and others on the Military Sciences building. Officers caught up with the group and warned them not to climb on the buildings. One report indicated that the a few of the people had climbed up to near the second floor level.

LPD wrote several alcohol violations, including one in the 1200 block of Oread.

Last nights DUI check lane in Lawrence gave Police plenty of activity, at least three DUI arrests, quite possibly were more that I did not hear as I was not sitting on that one frequency. Police also conducted a number of vehicle stops in that same area of vehicles that attempted to avoid the check lane by making illegal U-Turns. Numerous citations were also written at the check lane.

At 1:30 a.m. this morning, Lawrence Police responded with LDCFM on what was reported as a traumatic injury after a fall in the 1900 block of Haskell Avenue. Police investigated the incident as a domestic disturbance. No serious injuries were reported.

Police made at least two DUI arrests away from the area of the check lane overnight.

Later this morning, just after 4:30 a.m. LDCFM and LPD were called to the 300 block of Elm Street on a reported structure fire. The caller was unable to answer the questions that emergency dispatchers were asking. She was only able to tell dispatchers that “her chair is on fire.” Fire crews arrived and at first did not find anything, after locating the caller and removing her from the apartment, crews did find a chair that was smoking. The resident of that apartment was checked out by a medic unit on the scene, it did not sound as though anyone was transported away from the scene.

Around 6:30 a.m. this morning a 911 caller reported a vehicle found overturned in Riverfront Park, near the boat ramp. LPD and LDCFM responded to the scene with Police arriving first. Police advised that the vehicle was on its top with one occupant. LPD requested that only one LDCFM personnel enter the scene and the that the occupant appeared to be deceased. LDCFM arrived and confirmed that the occupant was deceased. No other information has been released at this time. Crime Scene Investigators and LPD Detectives are on scene investigating.
