August 13th Overnight Law Enforcement & Fire/Medical wrap up

Just before 11 p.m. County Deputies and LDCFM crews were called to the area of mile marker 147 on US Highway 59 south of Lawrence on an injury accident. Deputies arrived and found a motorcycle had crashed. The motorcyclist was thrown from the bike and Deputies quickly assessed the victim’s injuries to be critical. The responding LDCFM crews were advised and they quickly requested for emergency dispatchers to contact LifeStar to check on their availability. LifeStar was available and was requested to respond to the scene shortly after LDCFM crews began to arrive. Highway 59 was closed to traffic in both directions for a time while LifeStar landed on the highway. The victim was only described as a male in his middle to late 30’s. He was transported to a Kansas City area Trauma Center. Check the LJWorld story for the latest updates and more information as it becomes available.

Back in Lawrence, it was a fairly normal Friday night for Police when students are beginning to move back into town. Quite a few noise complaints, vehicle stops and disturbances. Police also conducted a few bar checks and at least one alcohol violation was reported.

As always seems to be the case this time of year, there are quite a few people having trouble with the concept of the one way streets throughout Lawrence. There was a non injury accident that involved a wrong way driver sideswiping a parked car when another vehicle, traveling in the correct direction approached. At least two other vehicles were stopped after Police witnessed them driving the wrong way on a one way street.
