We Noticed
This was written by Sherry Hackett, Buddy Hackett's widow.........
"WE NOTICED"
President Obama:
Today I read of your administrations' plan to re-define September 11 as a National Service Day. Sir, it's time we had a talk.........
During your campaign, Americans watched as you made mockery of our tradition of standing and crossing your heart when the Pledge of Allegiance was spoken. You, out of four people on the stage, were the only one not honoring our tradition.
YES, "We noticed."
During one of your many speeches, Americans heard you say that you intended to visit all 57 states. We all know that Islam, not America has 57 states.
YES, "We noticed."
When President Bush leaned over at Ground Zero and gently placed a flower on the memorial, while you nonchalantly tossed your flower onto the pile without leaning over.
YES, "We noticed."
Every time you apologized to other countries for America 's position on an issue we have wondered why you don't share our pride in this great country. When you have heard foreign leaders berate our country and our beliefs, you have not defended us. In fact, you insulted the British Crown beyond belief.
YES, "We noticed."
When your pastor of 20 years, "God-damned America " and said that 9/11 was "America 's chickens coming home to roost" and you denied having heard recriminations of that nature, we wondered how that could be. You later disassociated yourself from that church and Pastor Wright because it was politically expedient to do so.
YES, "We noticed."
When you announced that you would transform America, we wondered why. With all her faults, America is the greatest country on earth. Sir, KEEP THIS IN MIND, "if not for America and the people who built her, you wouldn't be sitting in the White House now." Prior to your election to the highest office in this Country, you were a senator from Illinois and from what we can glean from the records available, not a very remarkable one.
YES, "We noticed."
All through your campaign and even now, you have surrounded yourself with individuals who are basically unqualified for the positions for which you appointed them. Worse than that, the majority of them are people who, like you, bear no special allegiance, respect, or affection for this country and her traditions.
YES, "We noticed."
You are 9 months into your term and every morning millions of Americans wake up to a new horror heaped on us by you. You seek to saddle working Americans with a health care/insurance reform package that, along with cap and trade, will bankrupt this nation.
YES, "We noticed."
We seek, by protesting, to let our representatives know that we are not in favor of these crippling expenditures and we are labeled "un-American", "racist", "mob". We wonder how we are supposed to let you know how frustrated we are. You have attempted to make our protests seem isolated and insignificant. Until your appointment, Americans had the right to speak out.
YES, "We noticed."
On September 11, 2001 there were no Republicans or Democrats, only Americans. And we all grieved together and helped each other in whatever way we could. The attack on 9/11 was carried out because we are Americans.
And YES, "We noticed."
There were many of us who prayed that as a black president you could help unite this nation. In six months you have done more to destroy this nation than the attack on 9/11. You have failed us.
YES, "We noticed."
September 11 is a day of remembrance for all Americans. You propose to make 9/11 a "National Service Day". While we know that you don't share our reverence for 9/11, we pray that history will report your proposal as what it is...a disgrace.
YES, "We noticed."
You have made a mockery of our Constitution and the office that you hold. You have embarrassed and slighted us in foreign visits and policy.
YES, "We noticed.."
We have noticed all these things. We will deal with you. When Americans come together again, it will be to remove you from office.
Take notice.

Hi Tom,
great blog posting!
we noticed over here: Mr. Obama appoints people who admire Hugo Chavez crushing democracy and free speech; we noticed that though Mr. Obama says different now, twice (in 03 and '07) he said he wants single payer health care here in Amerika; we noticed that he seemed to care more about victory in New Jersey than in Afghanistan--two meetings with his commander and the last one was only 25-minutes long; we noticed that Mr. Obama wants to close a perfectly good facility at Gitmo that we've paid millions to build, wants to close it and bring the terrorists to our soil for public relations; we noticed that the nobel prize was given to him because, according to its citation, his foreign policy and values agree with most of the people around the world--problem is he's not president of the world but he's supposed to look out for the U.S.; we noticed that his wife was involved in a patient dumping scheme at the University of Chicago Hospital, he makes amazingly hateful statements about doctors (i.e. they just do surgeries to make money) and yet he's supposed to be in charge of health insurance reform; we noticed that Joe Wilson was fried because he said "you Lie" to Mr. Obama, but in two weeks after that in house and senate actions, democrats quietly took steps to block illegals from accessing Obamacare; Mr. Obama had his justice department drop charges of voter intimidation by Jerry Jackson and other New Black Panther members in PA, and Jerry Jackson is actually a local dem official; we noticed that Mr. Obama has SEIU and other groups engaging in thuggery to squelch dissent; we noticed that a Moveon.org crazy supporter of Mr. Obama bit off the finger of an american who simply wanted freedom and to express his opposition to Obamacare; we noticed that for seeking redress, real americans were called teabaggers (a sexual vulgarity) by Bill Clinton, Obama, and their followers down to CNN and MSNBC; we noticed that Pelosi and others have called the same freedom-seeking americans NAZI's, evilmongers, equal to the KKK, etc.; we note that anyone daring to speak in opposition to the supposed racial healer Obama is automatically labeled a racist; we have noticed Mr. Obama's double standard about race, if a white policeman is doing his job, he is automatically assumed to be racially prejudiced, but a "wise latina" is welcome to make negative racial comparisons according to race identity if the object is white males; we have noticed Tom, and we're angry.
thanks for posting man.

I tend not to "notice" a lot of Obama's apparent gaffes but he needs to get it together and show some leadership regarding the war in Afghanistan. His continued "deliberation" is getting ridiculous.
And I agree that, if passed as it is, health care reform along with cap and trade will doom us economically. Economic recovery should be his #1 priority.

We can't help but notice that tom shrewman is a bilious sack of anger and resentment that misplaces blame on the President who seriously wants to do good for our country but can't due to the likes of tom. The teabaggers, deathers, birthers, neocons, neo-neocons, and other shades of political wankery are running around with their heads cut off while corporations, lobbyists, and astroturfers are laughing their heads off at them. The nutjobs, tom included, don't know who the real causes of our problems are. Instead they are focused on the trappings of patriotism, rather than real patriotism, and imagined slights at the dignity of the country when actually President Obama is making America a respected player in the world again rather than a bully led by a child in a cowboy suit.

Oh. I thought that the commonly used verb that describes the activities of the anti-Obama/anti-government unless they are in charge "Tea Party Patriots" would certainly pass muster for the forums. CNN (who I'm sure everyone but extremists will agree is about the most neutral major media source) used the term I used in the above banned post.
With the way Tom spins, I DO imagine he is pretty flexible, so no surprise that he immediately assumed that I meant something else.
staff04 (anonymous) says…
Tom, why don't you get back to protesting yourself by assembling large crowds of older, under-educated white people who can't take the turnabout that recent elections have presented, ala the "Tea Party Patriots."
I hope that clears things up and believe that this re-phrased post complies with the forum user agreement.

What we have here is Mr. Shewmon increasingly spinning out of control with his obsessions, in an impotent rage that our sitting chief executive is far more successful in less than a year than the previous CIC was in his eight years combined.
I'd like to take this time out to address another of his obsessions. Mr Shewmon is absolutely obsessed about the length of my hair (check out his posting history.) I haven't gotten this much attention about my hair length since 2003, when I cut my hair very short and my gay friend "J" just absolutely loved it.
While I am gay-friendly, and don't mind being "hit on" by guys, I have to let you know, Tom. I'm not going to change my appearance for you, no matter how many time you insist that I get my hair cut! I'm not gay (not even, ahem, "repressed.") Sorry to break it to you. Move on; I'm sure you can find a young man who is willing to change for you.

Obama did apologize to other countries for America 's position on an issue. – Lack of respect for America and Americans.
Obama did do his first formal TV interview as President on Al Arabiya, an Arabian network. – Lack of Respect for America and Americans
Obama refused to visit Normandy with the French President while in France to pay respect to the WWII vets. – lack of respect for American War Dead and lack of respect for an ally nation…oh, and for America and Americans.
In the photo above he fails to participate in the Pledge of allegence OR the National Anthem which have similar traditions of covering the heart and facing the flag. Perhaps America is not where his allegence lies? – Lack of respect for America, Americans and the flag. The fact that he did participate in the Pledge when opening the floor of the Senate does not impress me. He is no so stupid as to not know what he can and can’t get away with.
Knowing very little of the situation, he publicly calls the actions of a Police Force stupid – Lack of respect.
He has had Bill Ayers, a domestic terrorist, stay at the White house – lack of respect for the office.
He sat passively for years and listened to the sladderous words of Reverend Wright – respectful? Not in the least.
He will bring the Terrorist mastermind of 9/11 right down the street from ground zero and ask 12 NY jurrors to listen witrh an open mind to his defence, which will no doubt be progandist hateful B.S. justifying the actions of all Islamic Terrorism.—Lack of respect for America, Americans and the American system of justice.
He would like to close Gitmo…and bring those terrorist whom would like to see us all dead into our own back yards. One of the goals of these terrorists has always been to gain access to the U.S.A., so hey, let’s bring ‘em on. Stupid and – Total lack of respect.
This President doesn’t even believe he is the leader of the greatest nation. He does not realize. I suppose he figures the best thing he can do for this nation would be to neuter it.
I notice Tom and I am very dissappointed. I was glad to see something other than a old, white, rich man take office. I wish it didn’t have to be such a disaster. I wish Hillary were President and those are words I thought I would never say/type.
Obama = Arrogant. Disrespectful. Ill-equipped.

Actually, Marion, a quick internet search will show that _this_ or even *this* is preferable to "this". When denoting emphasis. More often "this" denotes sarcasm. While this piece was smarmy, it was not sarcastic.

No, I do not support torture. I'm against it.
Recent reports indicate that the current treatment of those held at Guantanimo is good.
How has the U.S. Government acted like Nazi's??
I know we spend fortunes and bend over backwards to rebuild communities, better than they were before after we have had millitary action in the area. We have been fighting for human rights and freedom not against them. I would prefer we not be warring in the Middle East, but we are. Are you suggesting that we currently, are not fighting this battle in a respectable manner? In my opinion, from all I read and hear we are more prone to put our soldier's lives in jeopardy in order to be fair toward the enemy than we are "like Nazi's"
Only the disrespectful actions taken are viewed as disrespectful. Not everything that he has done. Right at the moment I can't think of any think very respectable that he has done...but if I think on it a while I can probably come up with something. Thinking....thinking...hmmmmm...ouch...yep, I thought so hard it hurt. But I'm still pretty confident I can come up with something he has done, that at the very least has not been disrespectful. He did go to the memorial service at Ft. Hood. I'll give him that much. I wasn't too sure he would show, but he did. Bravo, Kudos to Obama.
Tell you what...maybe we could work out a trade. You give me a dictionary and I'll give you a freaking history book.

Yep, I'm against them just like I'm against torture. But then I'm waaaay out there, a real nut job, with real unacceptably honest opinions.
monkey_c (anonymous) says…
Glad you enjoy my lack of defensive hostility. I try.
No one asked me about Guatanamo during the Bush administration. I think Obama has done an admirable job of addresing torture. There, see an admirable and respectable thing. That makes 2 respectable things I can think of and that one didn't even hurt. See I say honest opinions because, believe it or not, they are just that. Not partisan, not rash but rather a thought out honest opinion. I can respect the fact that everyone has one and in fact I enjoy exposing myself with an open mind to the opinions of others. Which is why I read the comment section.
So now I'm very curious about how you form your opinion that America has been behaving nazi-like.
Please note that I said "recent" reports have indicated that the prisoners are "currently" well treated. I wasn't looking at the history of the Bush Admin. I don't agree that the mere presence of Gitmo gives America a black eye. Or maybe more accurately I don't care if it does, if it protects the homefront. The treatment at Abu Grabe (however it is spelled, if I can't spell my native tongue you can't expect me to spell abu grabe right) was dispicable, I won't defend it. But that's not Gitmo and that's not even close to the attrocities of the nazis!!
monkey_c (anonymous) says…
Busted?????????
Communication errors = poor spelling
Historical errors? As I pointed out and said initially I was speaking about the current situation at Guantanamo. I was not referring to Bush. I decided I could be done concerning myself with G.W. Bush right around 1/20/09.
I don't think highly of Bush and I don't see any usefull point in blaming Bush. Bush is not so bright, he is respectfull though, except maybe for when he puked on the Japanese P.M.

Cappy says: "...President Obama is making America a respected player in the world again."
Besides the Nobel Prize for doing nothing and the Pew Research pole which shows a significant increase in how people around the world perceive the US, what has President Obama actually accomplished to "make America a respected player in the world again?"
Is Iran shutting down it's pursuit of nuclear weapons? Is Russia helping with that? France is (France?!?) is lecturing us on how to be tough on the Iranians. Despite all of Mr. Obama's apologizing for a long list of alleged American crimes, these thugs remain unmoved.
Communist China is lecturing the President about capitalism and is publicly stated it's concern about owning so much American debt.
The Japanese are carping about our military base in Okinawa, and has made it clear it is redefining its relationship with us.
The South Koreans are expressing doubt about the American promise to keep it safe from North Korea.
Lets see...
The value of our dollar has/is declined a disturbing amount. Gold prices are soaring. Our budget deficit has never been so bad and Mr. Obama wants to make it even worse with more debt for his health-care and cap-and-tax plans.
If all his current plans are implemented, by the end of his term Mr. Obama's will have overseen the addition of another $9 trillion to our already gigantic $11 trillion national debt. Despite promises to the contrary, the unemployment rate has past 10 percent and continues to climb.
Our trade deficit has reached a near-historic high. The countries that carry our national debt and sell us crude oil have been talking of dumping the US dollar as the international trading currency.
What else...
The President wants to put CIA agents on trail, but give the 9/11 terrorists trials in US civilian courts to make sure they enjoy the full measure of American liberty.
Almost forgot - The president can't seem to make up his mind on the war in Afghanistan while troops in the field are dying.
Respected player in the world? Do tell Cappy. Besides talk, what has he actually accomplished?
thelonious (anonymous) says…
This is an ignorant and inflammatory blog and not worthy of much comment, except that I must point out one thing and then make an additional statement:
Islam does not have 57 states - Islam is a religion, not a country or a government.
Also, I do not place my hand over my heart during the national anthem, never have. I stand at attention, looking at the flag, with my hands folded in front of me, much like President Obama in the photo. I was taught that this was an appropriate way to do it. And I consider myself patriotic as well, and my family certainly has made sacrifices - my grandfather was a machine-gunner who fought the Japanese on Okinawa and won a Bronze Star, and he never had any problem with my stance or demeanor during the national anthem. He even forgave me for buying a Honda during the 1980's.
But this blog is about what I'd expect from someone who probably thinks Sarah Palin would make a fine President.

monkey_c (anonymous) says…
Porch would you preferred to be considered close minded and unnecessarily offensive?
tbaker (anonymous) says…
Porch - Think about this: Rational people do not blame President Bush for things President Obama does, or for things he tries to do. Bush isn't coaching Mr. Obama and telling him to do the things he does and say the things he says.
Sure Mr. Obama "inherited" a mess. It's perfectly acceptable to point this out. Every single President does it. The trouble is this "mess" has gotten much worse since Mr. Obama took office.
Why would a rational person want to blame the fact the mess is getting worse on a man who is no longer President? Bush isn't "doing" the things that are making the mess worse - Mr. Obama is. The only way to noodle-through this logic is to say what Mr. Obama is doing isn't having any effect and the mess Bush made is so bad it is getting worse all by itself. What reasonable thinking person is going to buy into that concept?
I think the "blame Bush" crowd is doing great harm to Mr. Obama. He needs to shun them and take-on the "buck stops here" philosophy. He'd be way better off if he simply said some of things he's tried haven't worked the way he'd hoped, and he's going to redouble his efforts and try again. That kind of honesty would resonate a heckuva lot better than constantly having surrogates help him dodge responsibility and blame someone else for the country's troubles.
tbaker (anonymous) says…
thelonious - you were taught wrong. The behavior you describe is appropriate for foreigners, not American citizens.
See Title 4, Chapter 1, US Code:
§9. Conduct during hoisting, lowering or passing of flag
During the ceremony of hoisting or lowering the flag or when the flag is passing in a parade or in review, all persons present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute. All other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, or if applicable, remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Citizens of other countries present should stand at attention. All such conduct toward the flag in a moving column should be rendered at the moment the flag passes.

You issue a flurry of irrelevant attacks against everything and everyone that seems conservative to you while always completely avoiding the point in question.

All of this discussion goes back to my view that conservatives care more about the outward trappings of patriotism than the difficult stands one must take to really be patriotic.
Q. Criminals attack us. Should we attack them or invade Iraq?
A. Where's your flag pin?
Q. We seize prisoners. Do we abide by Geneva Conventions like civilized country?
A. Where's your hand during National Anthem?
Q. Do we try prisoners to show world we are a country governed by Laws?
A. How come you didn't shout "under God" during the Pledge of Allegiance?
And so on and so forth...

This is what we really need to be worrying about.

Not some cutie from Alaska or some type of hatchett job by a political party devoid of creditable leadership.
If the Republican Party, as corrupt as it is, would allow some of their real stars to emerge, they would give the Democrats a run for their money. But money, and how they divide it, is what these parties are about these days.

Do you know how much this country could accomplish if the house, the senate and the people were behind the president, instead of trying to derail him at every point, hoping he will fail? I never hope for a President to fail, no matter the party he is a part of. Because if he fails, our country suffers and we suffer.

Tom, this is your blog and you have the right to rant and rave to your sweet heart's content until you're foaming at the mouth and they come at you with a straight jacket. I ain't saying a word. Just do me the courtesy of returning the favor on my blog.

Tom-
I also noticed the other day in one of your posts you said that Obama had been "in and out of jail." Seriously, man? You're a complete liar.
And yes, we noticed. LOL!

I never said a word against bush. I supported him while he was in office.
Marion, way to turn around a post to fit your agenda instead of answering the question with a thoughtful dialogue. But I should have know that thoughtful, meaningful answers are not your style. Your agenda is.
This country is so self-centered - me, me, me, and believing what every uneducated crackpot says about the health bill - death panels and making statements just to stir people up instead of learning the real issues and fixing the problems. Do you think "united we stand, divided we fall" was only a civil war statement? It fits now, too, people.

I may have simplistic view of politics and our country. Say what you want. I don't give a flying fig.
But when I hear the pledge "one nation, (under god)"
I tend to take those words to heart.

__________
Mom of three: you might be surprised to learn that the Pledge of Allegiance during the majority of its existence has not included the words "under god."
The pledge was written just after the civil war, and its purpose was to proclaim loyalty to the nation as a whole, instead of a first loyalty, say, to South Carolina.
It was not until the 1950's, when politicians (like Nixon and McCarthy) spent their time castigating those godless communist regimes, that the Knights of Columbus convinced congress to actually adopt the Pledge of Allegiance into federal law....and at the same time insert the words "under God."
So it is some ways now a government drafted oath. A federal mandate in some ways. When the communists did this, we would ridicule them.
mom_of_three (anonymous) says…
NO, bostoncorbett, I am not surprised to know that under god was not always there. Why do you think I had it in parintheses?
And it was WAY before the 1950's when the government started "castigating" communist regimes. Try Wilson and J. Edgar Hoover. Heck, even before that.

Tom, your post turned into another me, me , me, poor pity repubs, bush, me, me, me., everyone else is bad.
We are one nation, so I am not surprised the Bush's visited Ft. Hood. They are, after all, in Texas. But it wasn't about them, and yet, you made it about them.
You want obama to fail, and if he fails, then our country fails. You may not agree with his methods, and you can vote to change them in three years. But instead of working against him or anyother president, just for him to fail, try working on other ways to accomplish the goal without everyone suffer. IF you don't like the healthcare package, you should have thought of an improvement, told your congress person, did something about it, instead of just *itch and complain. If you don't like how a manager does something in your company, do you not have a way to offer another suggestion, or an improvement? Or do you do everything in your power to make sure he fails, to make yourself look better?
A simplistic view to be sure....

Everybody knows President Obama inherited a tough situation, and everyone expects them to lay blame on the last administration for a time. Every new president does it.
However, when he and his lieutenants blame President Bush for mistakes they themselves are making, people see it for what it is. Its laughable. It's also a little unnerving to see them play this juvenile blame game because it makes them look clueless. Instead of real solutions, they trot-out this old lame nonsense. People notice and they will remember the next time there is a ballot in front of them.
