Sex and the City
I came to the "Sex and the City" party late. I started watching the show when it was in syndication on TBS. Coworkers tell me that the HBO version was much steamier. Oh well! I didn't expect to really like the show. As a married, mother of three, I didn't think I had anything in common with any of the characters. Just watched it the first time because I couldn't sleep and it was on. Then I was hooked! I can see a bit of myself in all four characters but I probably identify most with Charlotte. I hate to say it, but it's true. As much as I would like to be Carrie or Samantha, I'm just not. One of my favorite episodes is when Big 'rescues' Carrie in Paris. Yes, it's true, I am a hopeless romantic. The movie will premiere tomorrow. I have plans to see the movie with a friend on Saturday. Did you watch the show? Will you see the movie? Who's your favorite character? Do you identify with one of them more than the others? Do you have a favorite episode? Think Big and Carrie will really get married? Have you heard the rumor that someone dies in the movie? If so, who do you think it might be?

I want to see the movie with my daughter (if she will let me!), or a close friend lone_lane1. I didn't watch the show much until it came to regular television reruns and I usually don't stay up that late - just ask multi and gnome! I think they have several of my girlfriends personalities down to a tee and I can see myself as well. I won't tell you which one!!! Let us know what you think of the movie!

I LOVE the show. I own all the episodes and have watched all of them numerous times. I really can't say I have a favorite one, because they are all so good. I am going to the movie on Sunday with a close friend who also owns all the episodes and loves it just as much as me. I hope Carrie and Big get married. Either way though, I will just be happy to have one more chance to watch them.

I am so excited for this movie! The previews look really good. I was reading an interview with Sarah Jessica Parker and she didn't deny the possibility that Carrie might be pregnant, thus paving the way for a second movie. Of course, who knows? I am going to have to find somebody to go with me because my husband won't, and none of my girlfriends in this area watch the show. Carrie went to the movies by herself, right?

I well remember the 1st times I watched it on TBS.My 1st show (a tamer one) I thought, what fun!The 2nd show left me thinking, 4 Hoars w/ Big Problems! I was enraged at what this show would be teaching women, & the possible effect on our members.A few more, the characters grew on me, I saw it wasn't all sex.Someone once asked which woman I was most like. After some serious thought, knowing how complex I am, the correct answer is “part of all of them”Sometimes, I can be Samantha, not in business, but handling social arrangements, & men.I am like Carrie..not in dress, heck I'm from KS. There used be no dress up places. (On the other hand, I did wear that one red dress with tiny pinstrips, polka dots on the belt, w/matching white bead necklace. One day, walking with a date, someone whistled. He was wowed, saying, “I've never dated anyone that got whistled at before!”. He soon learned I did my fair share of catching the public's admiration.)Carrie, in her reflectiveness, as I too write & question things. Her passion in dealing with Big. I too have those long old relationships that return to blossom again, or at least share how life is going , to contemplate our previous decisions.Miranda.. skeptical, too intelligent & sometimes too serious. The humor can go over her head, because she thought a comment or question was serious: she likes to help people with answers. Not trusting men, not enjoying men who watch pron incessantly during sex. No rudeness allowed with her. She tries so hard to make things work when it's important, in contrast, so often thinks things are hopeless. Then there's Charlotte. I'm least like her. While I'm also a brunette, she rejoices in finery, something I have seldom been able to afford. We are both into art, creative. I've been accused of being Martha Stewart because I know how to do so many all around creative things. She cherishes family, I used to. 1st marriage I wanted a family, but my husband was reluctant, so he would be agreeable right up until it was time to “go into action” then he would back out. So I have experienced her roller coaster reproductive life.I would like to see the movie, but must wait til the DVD.I first hand see the trouble this series has caused young women. My daughter was never a clothing or shoe hound. Now she comes home, showing off some “top brand knock off” purse, shoes, clothing.Ok, she has a model's body, but has a homeless person's back account. She needs no show flaunting endless clothes shopping, excessive drink (she just wrecked her car, very drunk), and to view men as “after dinner mints”.Unfortunately, she is a bartender and waitress at places that being “in fashion” pays off in better tips. She had one pair of slacks that even the staff called her “money makers”.One of the bartenders would ring a loud hanging bell and announce to the whole place that she had arrived, commenting on her attire. They would applaud. Quite a show.Sheesh.

My daughter won't let me go to the movies with her either. In fact i'm not allowed in the Lawrence movie theater or the pool on Saturdays.

That is nice, adriennerm. I might just take you up on that - I wonder when they outgrow that stage of whatever mom looks like, thinks, says, or does is not so cool?Maybe rodengirl16 wants to join us?!?! We should have a party and dress like the girl from the movie we are most like and the others can guess which one we are.

I just feel for those who have only watched it on TBS. They've missed out on a lot. It's so watered down.I'm looking forward to this movie. When it was on HBO, from the first season I never missed a Sunday.

OK, I am a guy. I saw a few of the episodes on HBO, but mostly I have watched the TBS cleaned-up versions. At first, I wondered why women viewers loved this show so much. The four main characters based so much of their lives and happiness on “men.” Carrie couldn't let go of Mr. Big and measured her joy by how many pairs of new, expensive shoes were in her closet. Samantha canoodled with every male organ in Manhattan, Miranda was so tightly wound that she had trouble finding dates, and Charlotte was simply living in a Barbie Doll world, expecting her Ken to sweep her off her feet. I viewed at as a hamfisted media attempt to demean women. Seriously. I did. Then, I finally figured it out. ohhhhhh, it's FUNNY!But I hope that when my daughter watches this show and movie (she's almost 13, I dread the day when that movie milestone is achieved), she realizes that those women are not role models to be emulated - they are stereotypes to use as examples of how NOT to act.

I am out of town for a few weeks, but have a “girl's night out” planned for when I return for this very reason. Loved the show and the recent network knock-off's like Lipstick Jungle can't hold a candle to its humor.Have fun on Saturday, ladies!

Oscarfactor - you are dead on. A show about women that sleep around - hardly what I want my daughters to see as acceptable, or my sons for that matter. Not a way to find happiness. A disease maybe, but not happiness.

I warned him that he needed to get tested, and put the paper in his wallet as some women ask.He replied, “No one has ever asked, and I figure, what I don't know won't hurt me.” He is safely remarried now, thank goodness.gasp!

Believe me, Joyce, if the show was about four bachelors in NYC who acted similarly to our heroines, I would say the exact same thing….and fear for my son - if I had one.

Rodent:My friend and I saw it today. We both enjoyed it! I've heard some critics haven't liked it but I don't usually go by what they say. I can tell you there is happiness, sadness, drama, and it is more risque than the version that I watched on TBS. :) I'd recommend it just for the fun factor and catching up with the girls.Hope you enjoy it if you get to see it!
