But Maj. Gen. William B. Caldwell IV has decided his promotion should take place in front of his family and friends at Fort Benning. The ceremony is set for 11 a.m. Friday at the Benning Club. As military spokesman in Iraq, he conducted regular news conferences and interviews on the plans and operations of coalition forces. His next duty assignment is commanding general of the U.S. Army Combined Arms Center at Fort Leavenworth. Lt. Gen. Thomas F. Metz, deputy commanding general for Army Training and Doctrine Command, will officiate the closed ceremony.
