Here are today’s headlines about Kansas military matters:Kansas National Guard(KBSD6.com) Storm Damage In The Millions: With another winter storm and possibly freezing rain predicted for the end of this week, the Kansas National Guard is getting ready for even more damage. “We hope not to see that situation again,” says Sharon Watson of the Kansas Adjutant General’s Office, “but just in case, we have many generators stationed in western Kansas at various armories.” The Adjutant General’s Office will send out teams to assess the storm’s total damage on Wednesday. There were 135 National Guardsmen in the field helping relief efforts last week.Fort Riley(Macon Telegraph) FVSU to hold memorial service for slain soldier: Hayes Clayton often assisted other cadets when he served in the Fort Valley State University ROTC program and showed other leadership skills, his former professor of military science, retired Lt. Col. Gregory Rooks, recalled Monday. Clayton, an Army captain, was killed in Iraq on Dec. 25 by an improvised explosive device. Clayton was assigned to the 842nd Military Training and Transition team, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan. Clayton was most likely displaying those leadership skills, Rooks said. “I’m sure he was leading from the front,” Rooks said, adding that he was numb when he first heard the news Dec. 26 of his former student’s death.
