Twitter Basics From Guerrilla Internet Marketing
OK, step right up, now!
Twitter is a social networking site which can be used to make you a ton of money, help out a cause or just talk to other people.
I personally opt for the first, so that's the approach we are going to take in this blog.
Go here and look around:
http://help.twitter.com/portal
OK, first, you set up a gmail account using whatever name you want. Make certain that you have a secondary email in your Account Profile so that if you ever lose your password, you can use the password recovery system to reset it.
Do NOT use POP/Forwarding to your regular email address as you will soon be very unhappy as your inbox will soon be full of Twitter Follower and Direct Message notifications!
Let the gmail account handle all that.
Now, go to Twitter and follwoing the on-screen directions, set up your Twitter account.
Keep it simple; avoid words like "Free", "Money", "Phamacy", "Stocks", "Bonds", "Financial"; in short, avoid using the words most commonly found in spam-type emails.
Don't get too cutesy with your Twitter Username.
Something simple like "Savethefarm1" will do nicely.
Now that you have registered with Twitter you need an automatic following service; Twitter Follower is good and there are others.
After you get signed up with Twitter, you can access a menu on your account page which will let you select from several free services.
Always follow those recommended by Twitter also.
Do NOT un-follow anyone! Every time you un-follow, you reduce the number of people who can follow you, so just put up with all the direct messages which will come to your gmail account.
There are paid services but at this level, you don't need them.
OK, now..............................
You've got a 140 character limit on posts, so you need to use a URL shortener, like tinyurl, bit.ly, ICanHaz, URLTea; there are a bunch. Split them up and don't use the same one every time.
Basically what you do with these, is go to their site, enter the full URL of, say a newspaper article like the one about the dairy farm on the LJW anad the URL shortening service will kick out a short version of the long URL which you can then enter in Tweets without using up too many of your 140 characters per post.
You then copy the shortened URL and paste it into your Tweet, like this:
"Greedy bank to take family farm (Enter shortened URL here)"
Bingo!
Your followers will pick up on this and the thing will go viral!
Don't send out more than maybe a dozen Direct Messaes in a day though, or Twitter might ban you.
If you get banned, just set up a new account and carry on!
Now, I am PC guy and don't understand Macs at all, although my GF says that Macs are the cat's meow; this as her cat was biting me on the leg, so I dunno.
Anyway, if you are going to run a PC with Windows, you need good security, so here are my recommendations in that regard.
Keep your Microsoft or Windows Update current.
Do not use Automatic Updates unless you keep your box turned on all the time.
Every few days, just run Update.
Use Windows Malicious Spyware Removal Tool often.
For a firewall I have found Zone Alarm Free Version to be excellent.
When you install it though, use the Advanced Install feature and only install the program and a desktop shortcut.
Do NOT install the "free" toolbar because that toolbar, like ALL tool bars, is loaded with Adware.
Do not use ANY toolbars, especially that completely evil YaHoo! Toolbar!
Download and install Windows Defender.
Download and use Spybot S&D.
Keep it updated weekly and always download through the FreewareArchiv in Germany. It's on the mirror list and is safe and secure.
For your anitvirus, use AVG Free Home Version but when you install it, make sure that you do not install the "trial" version or it will go dead in 15 days.
I also like AdAware Anniversary Edition 2009 but it will occasionally fight with Spybot and AVG but no big deal.
Just cancel the notifications and all will be well.
Don't use Norton or MacAffee; both eat up systems and are basically over-rated junk and a real pain in the a to uninstall.
And remember, on Windows boxes when you use an add-on firewall you MUST have the built-in Windows Firewall turned OFF!
It's junk, anyway but if you don't turn it off, your box will run slowly or not access the internet at all!

The guy that build my system has me hooked up with an external firewall, spybot and avg. I concur with your advice, I have not had any { knock on wood} problems.

This looks intriguing. I have been a slow learner (not a great deal of interest or knowledge) when it comes to Facebook, twitter, and, of course, blogging was totally new to me until CJA took its hold. Thanks for the step by step process.
Any other downsides of doing this? Could you send your earnings directly to me? ;)
Thanks for taking the time to break this down into understandable terms.

About the only downside is the time that you have to spend doing this but if you are tweeting for the right thing, the profits can be astounding.
Look at it like this…………………………….
Let's say that you have started tweeting about Gizmos and that you sell Gizmos.
You don't go right in and tweet that you sell Gizmos; that'll get you banned…………………………………………..
“Softly, softly, catchee monkey!”
You are not looking for a post count on Twitter but rather followers…thousands of followers, so what you do is put up a few posts a day which reference Gizmos, thereby building a group of followers who are interested in Gizmos…..you are building a niche market list!
After you've got a few thousand followers and you can get them in only a few weeks, you can then start tweeting with links to your Gizmo selling site.
” I found great Gizmos here: (Tinyurl link)”
Now let's say that you are selling a $20 Gizmo and you have 20K followers who are interested in Gizmos and you start tweeting about your Gizmo site.
You might well get a 2-3% click-through; “Click through” being the number or % of people who “click through” to complete a purchase.
2% of 20K is 400.
400 x $20 = $8,000.00!
Even if you only got a 1% click through, that's still four grand!
And see, the thing goes viral because your followers will also tweet about your Gizmos which will make your potential customer base even larger!
And yes, Ronda, I do WU, MoneyGram, checks, wires and outbound ACH for payment to affiliates.
LOL!
Hey, speaking of money and how you get it, I will also be doing a blog on payment processing and Merchant Accounts so that you can learn how to accept credit cards online.
