LJWorld.com political censorship?

I typed up a post, and the filter would not let it go through. I couldn't find any reason why, so I broke down the post and posted it sentence by sentence to see which one was objectionable. Here's the sentence that the filter would not allow to be posted:

"Obama's policies haven't saved us from depression, they are pushing us into depression."

Interesting, hmm?

Comments

Liberty_One 12 months ago

Notice that there are a lot more comments than actually appear. I posted that line and it will not show up.

Interesting.

Testing: "Obama's policies haven't saved us from depression, they are pushing us into depression."

I bet it don't like the single quotes. SQL can be a daemon that way.

0

RETICENT_IRREVERENT 12 months ago

Overall, it is still a pretty nice sandbox. A few cat turds. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth, before you wash your hands.

0

Alex Parker 12 months ago

This sounds like a glitch. I'll alert our web team. If you experience this again, please let me know.

0

RETICENT_IRREVERENT 12 months ago

Alex, I ASSuME that it was without the quotation marks...

What is a sketchy list?

Testing, part II: Obama's policies haven't saved us from depression, they are pushing us into depression.

Obama's policies haven't saved us from depression, they are pushing us into depression.

0

Huh. Worked fine for me. Incorrect statement, though.

Cabbages, knickers, it hasn't got a beak.

0

Curious if there were links in the post.

I've noticed when my posts won't go through it's because either 1) Too many links or 2) the URLs are too long and I have to convert to tinyurl to post

0

grammaddy 12 months ago

Me thinks Lib_one is trying to prove the old saying, "If you repeat a lie often enough, it becomes the truth." Sneaky...

1

meggers 12 months ago

Perhaps it was your incorrect usage of the comma.

You can post factually incorrect statements and you can use bad grammar, however doing both in the same sentence is frowned upon. ;)

0

meggers 12 months ago

How strange. What browser are you using? I'm using Firefox, in case that makes a difference. I don't see why it would, but I'm not very tech savvy.

I always have problems with the mobile site (or rather, the lack of a fully functional mobile site), but on the regular site, I haven't experienced any of the problems mentioned in this thread.

0

Alex Parker 12 months ago

An interesting theory, but it's just not true. I've again alerted our web team to this issue and hope it is resolved soon.

0

RETICENT_IRREVERENT 12 months ago

I think inquires should be made to Mr. Parker as to the secret existence of the "sketchy list" . Rumor has it that the secret internally maintained "sketchy list" exists at the LJWorld.com and is a list composed of certain individuals whose posts are subject to special moderation.

It is so secretly protected that if you search for the term "sketchy list" on the LJWorld.com site you get: Page unavailable We're sorry, but the requested page is currently unavailable. Please try again later. http://www2.ljworld.com/search/?q=sketchy+list&models=comments.comment

President Obama is the best president we have had in a long time. There were cheers all around when the health care reform act was passed.
He is cool, calm, collected and rational at a time when that is needed. While it may feel good to get all giddy and jump up and down and shout, that does not solve problems but only adds to them.

2

Frankie8 12 months ago

See, that went though just fine.

RETICENT_IRREVERENT 12 months ago

"An interesting theory, but it's just not true" - Alex Parker

Mr. Parker, will you publicly confirm or deny the existence of the "sketchy list"?

0

You still can't mention **, can you?

0

Don't get yourself disapearededed, comrade.

I think Alex Parkers silence is very telling.

Wow it is those two words... I just tried myself using a different phrase with those two words together. No dice.

I think the web developer was bullied in school and was often pushed down on the play ground hence the banning of those two words used together.

Pushing us into depression.

Megger's try this one:

Alex's sketchy list is (insert offending words) to use tinyurl.

They are taking the servers down until the morning to take care of some issues... Though you will still probably be on the sketchy list...

Lists, lists are evil, vile, exclusionary, persecutory.

0

snap_pop_no_crackle 12 months ago

Puddlegum is much too pretty to be on the sketchy list.

0

snap_pop_no_crackle 12 months ago

"Your content has been submitted for moderator approval" Guess that means I'm certainly on the sketchy list.

These cries of victimhood are just ... well ... sketchy.

Time to put your big boy pants on folks, admit that sometimes the world (LJ or otherwise) doesn't always go your way and quit your whining already.

Besides, Obama DID keep us from falling into a Depression.

3

beatrice 12 months ago

By the way, I just "liked" my own comment. Now, how sketchy is that?

3

RoeDapple 12 months ago

I just liked 'em both . . .

Well, third time may be a charm: fourth, fifth, sixth.... tenth

Talk about being censored. I have had three disappear from this thread.

One was responding to T-_O_B, ""snap_pop_no_crackle (anonymous) says… You still can't mention **, can you?"

Shoemaker, Marion or Sven?

DIST replied: Do you mean Marion Lynn?

Regular <a href=LJWorld.com commenter Marion Lynn is pictured Tuesday at his home. Lynn, who has recorded about 16,000 comments online, chooses to reveal his identity because he believes it gives him credibility.">

by DIST

The second was a reply to bea: "I didn't like your comment, bea; but, I liked you. Now, if Obama would just quit pooshing u$."

The third was for L_O: "L_O - It is time to rename the blog to: How I got liberals to comment that 'Obama's policies haven't saved us from depression, they are p00shing u$ into depression."'

As I type this, the spam above me by VelezRosalyn is only 8 minutes old. Interesting how spammers get their stuff posted right away whereas my comments take hours to appear.

Nice to know that the spammers rate higher than i and other users do. Perhaps they are a new ad revenue source. They even get to edit their comments as they get posted within the window of opportunity to do so.

0

Alex Parker 11 months, 4 weeks ago

Please be patient, classclown. We're testing out solutions and trying to figure this out. Nobody wants to find a solution more than I.

whitney used to censor anything conservative posts, much like the huffington post....clearly an open minded thing for today's journalists.
