Let's see, at the current price of a pack of cigarettes (including all those taxes), that means they stole what, three and a half packs or so?

Or did the police estimate the “street value” like they do with drug busts (like “Man arrested with two marijuana cigarettes with an estimated street value of $4,375,000”)?

if the cigarette thing has been going on since Nov 1, why did it take this long to discover the loss? How often do they check their stock?

IGW, welcome to the 21st century. There's no such thing as “tax free” on Indian reservations these days.
Reservations have established their own governments, and of course, levy their own taxes and excise fees anymore. The smokes may be marginally cheaper, but not worth the lengthy drive.

Since IGW insists on attempting to draw my attention to this thread via unwanted spam PMs through the LJW system:

I do not *support* Ralph Nader but will be campaigning for him.
I consider him to be a liar and an all 'round jacka** but his candidacy will split the DemonRat vote and that will be a good thing.
His fradulent book “Unsafe At Any Speed” was full of lies and killed a car; the Corvair, which had no “design flaws” from the beginning and did more damage to both the American auto industry and American consumer than it did good.
Nader is an irresponsible self-appointed “consumer advocate” who bases most of what he does on half-truths and sensationalism,

Marion writes:
Well, allow me to retort!
First, IGW wrote: ” I do the courtesy of telling Marion I am talking about him on this thread ”
Marion writes:
OK, IGW, like I don't read the threads?
Like you think that I didn't know?
(oh…..*think*…never mind!)
Like I really consider that anything you have to say is of value?
Like I give a biosolid whether or not you are talking about me?
Hell, if you're talking about me, you are leaving some other poor SOB alone!
And what is it with your perverse personality that you have to draw such attention to the fact that you are talking about someone?
Were you deprived of attention as a child?
Are you desperate and lonely?
Do you think that I give a sh+t?
IGW, you are one pathetic internet user!
And as far as the difference between permmission-based marketing and “spam”; the gap between the two is wider than the widest point of the Grand Canyon but you are so perverted in your outlook, so controlling and so demanding that attention be drawn to you (As evidenced by: “ha ha ha. I do the courtesy of telling Marion I am talking about him…….OK Marianne. I just won't tell you next time.”) that you feel compelled to send me *spam* in the form of unwanted PMs through the LJW system!
IGW represents the worst form of internet infestation; the obsessive-coimpulsive with nothing of value to communicate but lots to say.
This form of internet lilfe runs in packs; snap, TOB and the like; they cling together, like scum on top of a pond. They and the B+tches Coven from the local Looney/Lefty site ruined the CJOnline forums and are trying to ruin this one.
Why?
Simply because they can.
I also can't help but notice that IGW, snap and TOB find themselves compelled, perhaps by an unseen force, to play games with my name, as though they were small children in gradeschool.
IGW, snap, TOB and the like are folks in dire need of help and in the meantime, should be avoided at all costs.
They may well *snap* at any time, like the school shooters.

Hawk, as a delivery driver in Lawrence for many years, I wondered why college kids would keep valuables in their cars.
One time, one guy confessed to me that he didn't want his girlfriend going through his stuff. That's why he kept his cash in his truck.
When kids shack up in college relationships, the car is the most secure place to them.
