2 taken into custody following a brief downtown footchase

Law enforcement report ¢ Lawrence police arrested a 15-year-old boy and an 18-year-old man after the two fled from an officer attempting to make a traffic stop this afternoon. About noon, an officer observed a Ford Contour driven by the 18-year-old in the city parking lot in the 800 block of New Hampshire street. The vehicle had an invalid license tag, according to police. The vehicle slowed to a stop and the two suspects fled on foot south on Massachussetts Street. Police caught both suspects in the 100 block of East Ninth street. The 18-year-old was transported to Douglas County Jail on traffic charges, contributing to a child’s misconduct and violation of the city’s fireworks code, when fireworks were recovered in the vehicle. The juvenile was taken to Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center.Burglaries and thefts reported ¢ A 42-year-old Lawrence woman reported the driver’s sideview mirror, window and door of a 1998 Honda Accord were damaged between 11 a.m. Sunday and 8:15 a.m. Monday in the 1700 block of Whitmore Court. The damage estimate is $1,050. ¢ A 32-year-old Lawrence woman reported two Sony speakers and a Sony subwoofer were stolen from a Toyota Camry in the 700 block of Hickory Street between 9:30 p.m. Monday and 6 a.m. Tuesday. The rear carpeted area above the back seat also was reported damaged. The total loss is $1,500. ¢ A 27-year-old Lawrence woman reported numerous items were stolen or damaged in the 2500 block of Ousdahl Road Friday. Items included food, household goods, women’s clothing and electronics. The estimated loss is $2,483. ¢ A 26-year-old Lawrence man reported a 2001 Honda Prelude was damaged in the 1000 block of Jana Drive between 7 p.m. Sunday and 11 a.m. Monday. The damage estimate is $1,000. ¢ A 23-year-old Lawrence woman reported the driver’s side passenger window of a 2003 Subaru was damaged in the 2600 block of Weston Square Thursday. An Ipod Nano and Sony Valo laptop computer were reported stolen from the vehicle. The estimated loss is $1,700. ¢ A 28-year-old Lawrence man reported a vehicle burglary and theft occurred between 10 a.m. Sunday and 7:45 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of Concord Road. A Pioneer custom stereo was stolen from a 2003 GMC Yokon. The vehicle ignition switch and trim around the stereo and cover over controls on the dash were reported damaged. The estimated loss is $2,500.
