Vehicle theft reported to Lawrence police
Law enforcement report Burglaries and thefts reported ¢ A gold 2003 Chevrolet Impala, valued at $6,000, was reported stolen Wednesday. A 20-year-old Lawrence man reported the vehicle was stolen from the 2500 block of Crestline Court between midnight and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. ¢ A 23-year-old Lawrence man reported a door and frame of a residence in the 2500 block of Century Drive was damaged Tuesday. The total damage estimate is $1,000. ¢ A 24-year-old Lawrence man reported a 2007 orange Genuine moped was stolen from the 700 block of Vermont Street. The moped is valued at $1,600. The incident reportedly occurred between 11 p.m. Monday and 1 p.m. Tuesday. ¢ Several items were reported stolen from Jayhawk Towers on Tuesday while the victim was asleep in the room, according to a Kansas University Public Safety Office report. The items are a digital camera, iPod and cash. The total estimated loss is $1,143. ¢ According to a KU Public Safety Office report, someone broke into a victim's vehicle and stole $1,000 worth of stereo equipment. The crime reportedly occurred in the parking lot of the Burge Union on the KU campus between 10 a.m. April 2 and 10 a.m. Wednesday. ¢ A personal laptop computer and an external hard drive were reported stolen from a room in Haworth Hall, according to a KU Public Safety Office report. The total estimated loss is $1,180. Emergency calls Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical reported these responses: Fire calls ¢ Motor vehicle accident, 11:29 p.m. Tuesday, 466 E. 1700 Road. ¢ Smoke or odor removal, 8:57 a.m. Wednesday, 1251 Wescoe Hall Drive. ¢ Motor vehicle accident, 10:02 a.m. Wednesday, Florida Street and West Seventh Street. ¢ Cooking fire, confined to kitchen, 5:19 p.m. Wednesday, 1908 E. 19th St. ¢ Motor vehicle accident, 11:03 p.m. Wednesday, 397 U.S. Highway 24-40. ¢ Motor vehicle accident, 2:53 a.m. Thursday, 1800 Engel Road.

Ok. This is no new news. There are hundreds of reports like this that don't make the newspaper. At least one car a day is reported stolen.
