Errant firework thought cause of Eudora blaze

EUDORA – A fire that severely damaged two Eudora homes around 10 p.m. Wednesday is unofficially thought to have been caused by wayward fireworks.Eudora Fire Chief Randy Ates said though the incident is still under investigation, the blaze most likely was caused by a firecracker that landed on the garage of 618 Locust St., spread to the rest of the house and the home next door.”It could’ve come from any particular location,” Ates said, “all the houses there are close.”The fire also brought down a power line feeding into the 618 Locust home. The heat from the blaze also caused an underground gas leak at 620 Locust.Eight local fire departments responded to the fire that Ates estimates caused around $125,000 in damage to both homes, one of which, 618 Locust St., has been deemed a total loss.
